    Re: DIablo 3 anounced :D

Hey, it was only 800x600 if you shelled out for the expansion

The day blizzard release a game that even comes close graphically to games a year old will be a strange day indeed - they go for supreme levels of polish and re-iterations to get their games just right. AFAIK they are the only studio that can afford to do that in existance (and even they had to go to activision for more 'gold' at one point).

    D3 looks pretty enough.

    Re: DIablo 3 anounced :D

Looking at the gameplay trailers make me really want this game.
But Witch Doctor? I prefer Necromancer.

I really, really want this to be a good game.
One concern I have now. When D2 came out I reckon that kind of game was still fresh.
With all the newer games out now, with next gen gameplay, will D3 feel dated in the gameplay department?

I really hope they add new depths to this game. I'm looking forward to it.

    Fantastic!

    Just noticed this post...

Been waiting for this for years! Been playing Titan Quest; its good but it doesn't quite have the same feel as diablo 2 does.

I hope so - I want my dose of old fashioned hack and slash more than I ever did In fact I'm already getting shades of golden axe from watching the trailers.

Ask yourself honestly. Did you just want to be the person playing it in the video??? I didnt think "Oh this is just click-click-click", I was thinking - wow it look great graphically, the audio sound like it is going to very stupidly OTT and epic (and i mean this in a good way) and that I cant wait.

When I played titan quest, that isnt massively different gameplay wise to D2, and I still loved that - it just wont appeal to some players, but i think if you love D2, then even if it wasnt updated that much and just had a graphical overhaul, I'd still get it... its visceral, and mindless gaming at its best, and to be honest, there arent that many games of that ilk being released, so this could be our fix...

    Just IMO

When i bought D2 the graphics put me off. So I went out and Bought Dungeon Siege 2 instead and liked that and played all the way through.
Baldurs gate hack and slash on PS2 I loved to death. Awesome. I like having hack and slash for when I'm in the mood recently. Still unsure of D2 as I still haven't sat down and had a propper go.
So right now I have Hellgate London. I love leveling up as a Cabalist Summoner. Trouble is, the single player campaign is terrible. So do I want to be the one playing Diablo 3 as I play Hellgate wondering what an amazing game it could have been. Damed right I do.

D3 looks amazing. Hack and slash is good for me. All I was trying to say was that it would be nice if they did more with the genre instead of the usual stuff. Like static backgrounds you don't really interact with. But since I've seen a video and read that the scenery will be destructable.
Imagine what that'll add to the gamplay. After fighting off a ridiculous horde of demons to be left with the area devasted. I hope Blizzard really add a lot to this genre. Because Hellgate was a big let down and felt dated.

There are times I want a deep RPG and times I want something like D3. I'm really looking forward to this title.

That depends whether you enjoyed D2 really. D3 is going to be more of the same and there's no escaping that. But consider that D2, along with Starcraft are two games released nearing on 10 years ago that are still played fanatically by thousands of people. They're not graphically the best, and the control system leaves a bit to be desired. But still, they've got that longevity and people want more!

As to your comment above, the scenery as shown in the video is pretty destructible. Certainly when the Barb uses that blast attack, it knocks over tables and blasts through boxes. And it's not a static background at all, look at the first few minutes. The water ripples as he moves through it, there are waterfalls - and don't forget this is 3D now. The monsters can climb up the walls, etc. So yes, definitely improved.

Perhaps the most important point was that they've coded it so that they can put scripted events into any part of the level. That basically means they can play with lots and lots of different ideas as opposed to just having monster spawn points. That's going to make for a much more interactive experience at any rate

I hear it will have "Havok-powered physics"

Yes they're using the Havok middleware for physics at the moment, which is great because it's apparently quite simple to plug into a game and it doesn't seem to have much CPU overhead.

    Just seen the gameplay video.

    Oh...my...god!

I love Diablo II, and this looks like it will be big. I don't care if they leave the game-play exactly the same as Diablo II, I want this now!

the one question that hasnt been answered yet: will the levels be randomly generated??

it made diablo so much more interesting and re-playable, but i think it was lost in D2, and got more repetitive in the process...
