    10 frames per second

After meticulous scouring of the internet, I have never seen any benchmarked system run Supreme Commander at a minimum framerate much higher than 10 fps. Does anyone know of any possible way of running this game consistently smoothly >25 fps? Does anyone else own this game and have to sit through the teeth-grinding zoomed-in battles that happen at 5fps (on my system anyway!)

    Re: 10 frames per second

check out custom pc, and several of the hd 4850 benchmarks dotted around the web, all of them post minimum fps of 10 or less...

my spec currently is athlon x2 4600, corsair 2gb 800mhz, and ati x800; can run coh and prey on high/medium at 1280x1024. Yeah I suppose the processor is way underwhelming for supcom!

I'm going for a q6600, 2gb 1066mhz, asus p5k premium and hd 4850 this summer; if i give the q6600 a good overclock (around 3.4ghz) would that be able to run supcom >25fps min (1920x1050)? custom pc doesnt think so... they're qx9650 still returned 10fps min at 1024x768... is that right?

I get 15 fps with my Q6600, 1900XT in dual screen mode with both monitors in 1920 x 1024 res. Must say, I really feel like I am a supreme commander when playing that game...

    Re: 10 frames per second

that was a qx9650, if ur 3.2Ghz can bench higher than 10fps then why can't this??? And if they were benching a CPU then they must've used the fastest GPU at the time, an 8800GTX Ultra? Surely such a setup can produce more than min of 10fps at 1280x1024...

    I'm thoroughly confused!!!

wow 15fps on 2 screens at full hd on a 1900xt! thats very impressive; maybe theres hope for my upcoming q6600, i better check with the custom pc forums to see whats going on, hopefully a q6600 with 4850 will return smooth framerates

SupCom works great on my humble spec, no slowdowns on zoom. You just need to get a better graphics card.

    Re: 10 frames per second

I play at 1600x1200 with AA on a C2D Conroe @ 3.3ghz (E6600 OC), 2Gb PC6400 5-5-5-15 and 8800GT at stock. Performance is more than acceptabe for me, although I would recommend a Q6600, 4Gb RAM, and HD4870...that should give you fantastic performance if you OC the Q6600 to 3ghz +

The limiting factor in Supcom is almost always someone else's PC and/or connection stabilty/speed. Try playing an 8 player on 40k x 40k map and it soon slows down dramatically. Whether it's a problem with bandwidth or simply weakest link in terms of PC spec of the 8 PCs invovled I'm not sure, probably either and/or both.

I'm really looking forward to the day we can play 80k x 80k maps at a reasonable speed, a 40k map plays completely differently to anything 20k or below, so I can only imagine what something bigger would be like.

    Re: 10 frames per second

Yep to all the above ^^ These type of games are definately CPU intensive and Quad cores do perform better than the Dual cores. Seems to be the way with these RTS games...

    Re: 10 frames per second

Plays fine on mine... FA can slow down a little in huge battles with a few thousand units but FA is much more demanding than SC. If I turn one monitor off I don't really get any slow down at all though.

2x 1920x1200 monitors.. Spec on the left <---

    Re: 10 frames per second

When playing MP/skirmish limit the total units to 250 - makes a big difference as the game progresses as 500 units per side (default) is a lot of stuff for your system to handle. Big time CPU dependant.

    Re: 10 frames per second

Do you guys think a q6600 @ 3Ghz or e8400 @ 3.6Ghz would be better for this game? Custom pc reported a overclock increase of 1fps with the e8400 overclocked @4Ghz from 10fps to 11fps min, does this sound right? it seems like a tiny min framerate and even smaller increase with overclocking...

yeah the q6600 sounds good, even though its a bit long in the tooth

what kind of setup do you think will get smooth min fps at 80x80 four player map? Can anything thats out today achieve that?

no probs on my system - dual 1600x1200 monitors on a single 640mb 8800gts (overclocked), graphics set to max with x4 AA and x8 AF, 4gb ddr2@500fsb 5-5-5-15, q6600 @3.8ghz - no slowdowns at all....even zoomed right in on a massive battle.
