    Mass Effect

I fancy getting this game when I get paid in a couple of weeks

Should I go for the PC or 360 version?

Does the PC need good graphics?

    Re: Mass Effect

PC version will have free DLC and some reviews say is the better version.

It does need goodish graphics, but the 8800GT is a perfect match - my GF is playing it on a E6300 and 8800GT with everything max + AA/AF. Her card sounds like it's taking off but it runs perfectly.

    Re: Mass Effect

    You're fine as is

There is a slight concern with MSAA on the unreal 3 engine (as used in ME) and AMD cards - it doesn't seem to play as nicely as it should (either doesn't allow it or bigger performance hit than expected), though I think this may have been overcome recently. Worth having a google for just incase.

As above - think that you will be fine. If you do go for the PC version (which I think you should) then stop by game - they are selling instore for £19.98 which i think is an absolute bargain.

I think that I am about 2/3s of the way through, and have reall enjoyed it.

I plan on picking this up sometime in the coming months myself (I know my rig can handle it! ), and I've always loved Bioware's RPGs.

    Re: Mass Effect

yep its a good game, not very fast paced though, the action is mostly slow and solid IMO, nothing too wild or fast, as for the graphics, they are really nice and it ran perfectly fine on my system.

    Re: Mass Effect

Playing this atm on my PC which is also an E6600 with a pair of 3870s and i've not had any major problems with speed on it.
One thing to be aware of is that the PC version really doesn't handle alt-tabbing to desktop 100% reliably, sometimes it comes back, sometimes it takes quite a while, others it just dies.
I've had a few odd crashes as well so i've learnt to save pretty often

I saw my mates 360 version and the minigame for hacking is different, the team combat is also different (better?) and menu layout is altered.

My mate did say that the 360 hangs a lot to stream the data from the disc and he's had it crash while doing it

But i do love it, my brother also got the PC version when it came out and is already on his 3rd play through

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is really bad about that too. in fact, I've *always* seen it crash if minimizing or alt-tabbing it. Luckily, I rarely alt-tab out of a game unless I really need to do something; usually I'll just save and exit (if possible). Luckily I'm a save fanatic anyways.

    Re: Mass Effect

great game, i have the issue of my card overheating with this game though as it makes it run hotter than crysis(WTF!!!) so i need the fan at like 60% to keep it running(instead of 50% on crysis) but it runs incredibly smooth on max @ 1680x1050. Graphics are good but on cutscenes the enemy can seem bad graphicly(in speech they are good). Story is well good but just so u know, if you complete the story u cant go back and continue to side quests but you can continue playing your character through the whole game again(to level it further etc). So take your time when playing it, i wanted to rush through as i always like the stories to develop, running can be annoying and slow to move but thats a small issue. If you played knights of the old republic, then youll love this(if u liked KOTR) cos it feels so much like it just better combat.

    Enjoy it, get it

I'm guessing it is a lot better than Hellgate then?

Enjoyed Hellgate for a while....then everywhere looks the same and the missions drag, sending you to one place for 4 missions to kil x of y and pick up z items that they sometimes drop
