Gaming on the Asus Eee/ other UMPC

I know a fair few people here own a UMPC, I have a 901 myself...

So, do you play games on it? and what are you playing at the moment? What do you find works especially well and isn't a pain to control on the Eee's tiny keyboard

I'm going away for a week with work so I'm packed my Eee and installed:

Neverwinter Nights 1 (no mods just the original)

    and

    Diablo 2 LOD.

both of these seem to work quite nicely, though I have turned down the detail somewhat on NWN.

I've installed both on the slower SSD but load times are really rapid especially NWN, and the videos play nicely to.

You can run a lot using this but connected to another pc, I managed to get peggle, HL1 and a few other games working, starcraft worked well too using an external CD drive

Re: Gaming on the Asus Eee/ other UMPC

I've gone mostly for things that will run without a cd, since I'm on the move.

I've not tried stream my game as yet, I've heard conflicting reports about it... I will give it a try at somepoint with my wifi at home as I have Assassins Creed and Bioshock that I fancy trying.

i went for NWN because you can pause it and set up your next few actions, which is quite handy.. faster paced games can be tricky with such a small keyboard.

The original Unreal Tournament is perfect - I'm running off an SD card on my Eee.

I just installed Peggle on a SD (on my 701)- not the most demanding of games, but fun.

I sometime run WOW of an external 2.5 drive. Works too. I have to overclock the CPU for this though.

Just started a Paladin Diablo 2 LOD, running on my MSI wind. There is a list of games that work on the wind (should work on other similar rigs) in the games section of

Sorry, but I just have to ask.

I thought that the Eee doesn't have a DVD dirve. Are you people just using a USB type DVD device of does the Eee have software to enable play without the disk?

Re: Gaming on the Asus Eee/ other UMPC

^Not all games implement disc checking routines; Unreal Tournament, Warhammer 40k, etc. As for installing, I either share a disc drive across the network or, as I now do, use a USB drive; it was only 30 odd quid and comes in handy when performing OS installations on the netbook.

For games which do use disc checking routines, well I don't think those solutions can be discussed here. I buy my games and don't have an issue applying means to get them working
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Sometimes with Unreal games applying the latest official patch removes the disc checking, like UT2004.

Either that or link the games through steam

Re: Gaming on the Asus Eee/ other UMPC

Diablo 2 is popular on non cd notebooks due to the latest patch adding the ability to play without CD.

Re: Gaming on the Asus Eee/ other UMPC

Diablo 2 patched to 1.12 and NWN patched to 1.68 or above work without the disk...

I did play a little nwn whilst I was away but I spent more time on the hotel's wifi talking to friends over msn or skype.
