I've been running GoW on Vista 64bit with no issues.

Are you using any kind of no DVD patch at all?
Have you got the latest drivers for your graphics card installed?
Can you list the main components of your PC?

Strange as it is labelled as games for windows!

I played through it with no issues at all on 64bit Vista. Getting the stopped responding type error could well be a driver issue. Like mentioned update VGA drivers and also your motherboard drivers.

Care to explain how? People often find these threads via search engines and its always a pain when the problem is solved but nobody explains

Re: geting gears of war to work in vista

    doh forgot about that
this is how i fixed it
i went into my gears of war/binaines folder , found the startup.exe and told it to run as admin this managed to give the program time to get the update i was missing (and enter my cd key) after the update was instaled it ran fine.

Re: geting gears of war to work in vista

Here is a link to a PC specific sticky on Epic forums:

    http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=607234

This lists the most commonly raised problems and their solutions. I have now run into some problems over XP and then vista, and mostly to do with the games for windows live executable. This seems to be your problem, and was raised in the main gow forum. Its a good place to look if you have tech problems - though you do have to put up with the bitching from all the little kiddies.

Great game though! Now playing on Vista32 fine... If only i had time for all the achievements!!!
