Company makes Motion Contollers for PC/Xbox360/PS3

    Just came across this

    http://uk.gamespot.com/hardware/blog...ag=picks;img;2

thought it looks interesting, but if its an optional controller, then games companies are under no obligation to incorporate motion control in games - its hard enough for well thought out Wii games, and thats a standard controller...

Have to admit that the black ones look well slick!

Thoughts on whether this could have any impact on the platforms mentioned?

well it doesn't necessarily have to be incorperated... all it has to be able to do is emulate commands (i.e. keyboard buttons, i.e. moving left is equivalent to the left arrow key or mouse movement...)

Point taken, but if you just emulate keypresses then it probably means that the game isnt made to provide the kind of control experience that motion controllers are meant to provide. But I guess that if it finally makes it to the consoles then the whole inferior-FPS-controls decreases a hell of a lot...

Will be interesting to see if there is any uptake by consumers or developers really...

aah, but if it emulates mouse movement then it is a whole different ball game...

Re: Company makes Motion Contollers for PC/Xbox360/PS3

These sorts of 3rd party un-supported hardware devices never catch on. A few adopters will be getting buyers remorse. They never work well enough with the consoles built in operating system to be used realistically while playing games that were not specifically designed with that hardware device in mind.

A cool idea yes, but a novelty at best. I wish I knew where companies that produce these sort of products find investors, they must just want to lose money on purpose.

Its all been done before on the playstation, and the playstation 2 on a lesser extent. Quite a few motion controllers released of various shapes and sizes and each one lasted hardly any time at all.. Also won't nintendo have an legal case against a device resembling and pretty much exactly like a wii - mote?

I thought Nintendo themselves got sued for the Wiimote...but yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a company out there somewhere in lawsuit land with a patent for this.

Re: Company makes Motion Contollers for PC/Xbox360/PS3

i Guess that it depends on what Nintendo has patented. From the article, it appears that there is more technology inside this than the remote (Accelerometers, gyros and megnetoscopes) so that might be why they could do this... but I'm not 100% on how the patenting system works so I might be wrong.

Re: Company makes Motion Contollers for PC/Xbox360/PS3

It looks just like a lightsaber.

It's completely overkill though. The article says it has a very high sensitivity, which just isn't supported in today's games, and I doubt such a niche product could create a trend toward new motion controlled games (I would hesitate to call Wii games motion controlled - more 'waggle-controlled').

The wiimote has already been adapted for Half-Life 2 on the PC, hasn't it? I'm sure I've seen a video on it on Youtube.
