    Exclamation Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

I got Clear Sky on the day of release in UK. I love it, I knew I would as STALKER SoC is my alltime fave game.

One problem.. when it rains in game, I have a mega bug, I get multicoloured shapes and lines flashing all over, making it almost impossible to play. I have to keep sitting aside while the rain stops, which is a let-down, as I think the rain effect is one of the best features Clear Sky has to offer, especialy on DX10.

I have the latest 8800GT drivers (175.19) and my Direct X 10 is up-to-date. I have also applied the patch to bring the game upto v1.5.03 and i still have the same problem.

Anyone know of any possible cause? Ive been waiting for this game since February
Ive contacted the producers, just waiting for a reply.

    Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

I narrowed it down to DX10. After playing around with the settings, eveything is fine. But when I put the dynamic settings to DX10, I get the different coloured blotches flashing all over the screen..

Does anyone know of a DX10 'patch' or 'fix' that could solve this?

    Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

Bam try using the latest beta drivers from nvidia (released end of August). i'm using those currently and although i've not encountered any rain in S:CS yet, I've not had any other problems and it can't hurt to try at least.

Am enjoying the game at the moment, only encountered one mission bug where i handed a PDA to a NPC which was the mission and it wouldn't give me the reward, so I put a shotgun to his face. I'm also worried that after all the time i've spent playing the game as soon as the next patch comes out I'll have to start over shame i didn't buy the game a couple of months later like i did with SoC to avoid the save game issues

    Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

I sometimes see the same issue with the rain. I usually quit and go back in and that clears it up. I see it a lot more when I'm trying to run at higher settings, dropping these down clears the rain issue for me.

On the topic of performance, the 1.01 patch turns on MSAA which can sap performance. Drop the console and turn it off for a nice performance boost. r3_msaa 0

The game looks great in places, a sun rise in Dark Valley with the sun shafts shining through the early morning mist sure looks good!

I'm getting pretty good performance on a 8800gts 512 but some places still judder for me, when you first enter garbage from cordon for example. I hope that jjwalker does another float32 mod for clear sky, that solved all my performance issues with SoC.

wow that's a weird graphic error!

beta drivers links - nvidia.co.uk/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-uk (the forum won't let me post a link so add the ww w in there!)
select what needs selecting on that page especially the bottom right option for 'Recommended/Beta' and change to beta.

it's rained in my game now and not had a problem with it so maybe the new drivers will help you out. good luck

    Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

I installed the BETA drivers (177) and the problem was still there, if not as bad.

    But..

This is odd. Ive just been playing for about another 3-4hrs, and just reached Lamansk, and it rained day AND night, and... no disco lights!! Seems fine at the moment. Just happens when it feels like it I think

    Ill keep you posted

Have a look on their support forum thingy, it's littered with bugs.

    Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

    [QUOTE=th0r0n;1516052]I can't believe this,

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: SHOC is/was one of my favorite games of all times

(I know there's bugs, but still, I started playing at 1.0005)

I think Eastern developers are fantastic at capturing atmosphere and I feel it was one of the most immersive FPS's ever made, I'm glad someone had the balls to make something a little different to the 'Hollywood' FPS's such as Halo and Prey, etc that we have a constant stream of. I can't think of a game that's engrossed me more.

I booted up Clear Sky, in full DX10 with everything turned on, and the graphics are amazing.

    Now this has happened: http://forums.hexus.net/help-technic...ml#post1515703

Annoyed to say the least, damn you Asus! But yeah, what I saw of the first 5 minutes of Clear Sky looks awesome, I don't mind if it's riddled with bugs, they'll patch it up eventually!

Can definately see a lot of talent with GSC, it's not easy to come out with a game this atmospheric and compete with the 'big boys', they show a hell of a lot of promise [/QUOTE

Yes I agree with you there, i was thinking about canceling my pre order but happy now i have it. Lot better than the first Stalker but yes we still have this major BUG problem that they don` t seem to care about fixing before release of a new Game.

Personally I think they do care about them, but testing PC games is very difficult because there are SO many different hardware combinations, at least with a console at least you know everyone will have the same machine. Where are everyone on a PC runs a mishmash of operating systems, drivers, hardware, install locations!

I think maybe next time they should create a public beta

fair point but it must be mentioned that the publisher plays a huge role on what state a game gets released. yes you can argue that the devs should have managed their time better or something but at the end of the day the publisher is the one who has set them a release day target based on the quarters and all that other business stuff which i have no idea on. i think if the devs had control of when CS was released, it wouldn't have been now. not only are they releasing an inferior product but they also aid to an image they're creating through their customers which is buggy and in parts/on certain machines unplayable.

and yes a public/closed beta would have been good, i think most devs/publishers are taking note of such things and will incorporate it into their plans eventually.

It's a two way process - the publisher will only set the target if they have been told by the devs they can make a game in that time. If they can't complete a game by the time they said they'd be able to then it's not the publishers fault - yes they can take the financial hit and delay, but there's only so much you can do that when given inaccurate information by the developers.
