Re: Classic games that need to be re-made for modern systems

If you are talking about making an exact copy of the original game but with fancy modern graphics, then there's nothing really that comes to mind because I'm not that arsed about graphics really. If the game is a classic and I'm not playing it any more, it's because I played it to death and new graphics wouldn't really help.

If you are talking about making an actual modern version of it though where it modernises the game play as well as the graphics, then..... I would probably have a list about a mile long Stuff like:

    Omicron Nomad Soul
    Jones in the Fast Lane
    Hidden & Dangerous games
    Tex Murphy games
    Space Rangers 2
    Summoner
Dune (the original not the RTS one)
    Eye of the Beholder
    Police Quest
Castles (it would be more than an RTS - it would elaborate on the King decision making stuff too)
    Elite
    Midwinter
    Stunt Island

    (yes I'm old)

You could slow that down if you wanted to ya know? There are various little things you can do to do that.

Do you know about the fan made Wing Commander game due very soon, made with the Freespace engine? It seemed decent. I played the first mission which was released as a demo a while ago. It might even be out by now. It's basically like Wing Commander.. but with a nice looking up to date Freespace engine.

You ever played, Lock On: Modern Air Combat? It was so good it made me air sick sometimes - seriously. Also, check this out:

How about just make all PC games compatible with windows vista?

Would save alot of effort, and means I don't have to type stuff for the next 10 minutes to get it all down...

It has to be Syndicate wars, I had forgotten all about it. Time to find my emulator disk and fire it up. Others on my list would be:

    Syndicate wars
    POPULOUS
    Renegade
    Carmegedon
Starcraft (which they are doing hooray)

Oh and I think it was called Stunt were you drove your car around a stunt track you built.
    Specs:

    Q6600 G0, Thermalright Ultra 120, ABIT IP35 PRO, 4GB Corsair DDR2, Trusty old Tagan 480u, BFG 8800 GTS 512, Samsung F1 750 GB.

Let's just say that the whole game is a bit tongue in cheek; I think you can still at least get the demo - edit: Here you go: http://www.3drealms.com/sw/index.html

Some good ones mentioned already like Syndicate Wars, FFVII and Abe's Odyssey... but for me, it would have to be Frontier: Elite 2.

I still have the DOS version, but have difficulties getting it to run despite many pages I've read about it. Need to try an emulator I think to get it running. Would be great to run it from my USB stick at work!

Duke Nukem Forever is actually nearly finished now. It took them about 15 years or something crazy, but there is a movie of it on the net where they show it playing and it looks pretty good.

I play that sometimes Works OK on my XP computer but I haven't tried it on Vista yet. There was also a sequel to that which was slightly improved, and you can get a shareware version which is free for 30 days.

Also there are still plans to make a modern sequel, but the people responsible are working on a huge big budget game at the moment which is due next year, and they want to get that out of the way first before they tackle the new Frontier Elite.

    Deus Ex!!
Both of them. Two would be quite good if it wasn't for the ripped out guts. But mainly One, oh yes, remake Deus Ex "The Conspiracy" please - let's hope Deus Ex 3 is good.
