Do you need the box when trading in a games console?

Want to trade-in an Xbox and an Xbox 360 at Blockbuster or Gamestation, but I don't have the original boxed packaging. Will I still be able to trade them in?

The consoles themselves are in pristine condition, but I threw out the cardboard boxes a while back.

no box needed, but lack of one may knock a quid or two off the trade-in value

Yeah I've traded a couple in without boxes, but like hex said you wont get as much.

Rather than trading them, you might be better value by selling for cold hard cash on the forums

Thanks hex, into a plastic bag they go then

*edit* thanks for the tip SiM. I'm usually too lazy to bother with online selling, don't like making the trip to the post office and what not. I'll see what Blockbuster offer first and re-think if they don't offer a good deal.

Re: Do you need the box when trading in a games console?

Steve's got it. I've moved house and the 360 is now my primary DVD player - don't want the clutter of additional boxes if I can help it.

Trouble is, my 360 is an ancient one and it a) makes a racket and b) has no HDMI socket. I'm gonna trade it in, along with my old Xbox 1 and a handful of games, and get either the 60GB Premium or the 120GB Elite. Not sure which one though.

Re: Do you need the box when trading in a games console?

I need to update mine, I'm forever having to delete downloaded demos/XBLA games/trailers due to lack of space.

My brother had a lucky buy about a fortnight back. A Pre-owned Elite +3 games for £200. The Elite had been won in a competition and had been traded in unopened.

The only problem now is he keeps nicking my games :/

    Get the Elite!
I looks oh so beautiful and the extra space will come in handy when the Dashboard Update lets you install games to speed up loading times!

If you want to split off the audio from HDMI, Elite, IIRC it comes with the audio breakout so you dont have to buy the £35 HDMI kit, and the extra 60gb will come in handy come November and the price difference isnt huge for the extra features

Re: Do you need the box when trading in a games console?

I am leaning toward the Elite, but all it depends on which is likely to be the "newer" build. From what I've read elsewhere, the newest consoles are the 60GB Premiums - they have the replaced memory chips and occasionally quieter disc drives, I think.

I'm hoping to trade-in around the end of this month, so I'll ask the store clerk to bring out a premium and an elite and I'll compare the manufacturing dates and go for the newer one.

The disk drive on my brothers Elite is pretty quiet.
