Well hmm where do I begin... I'm about 40% through Act 1 now, and quite honestly I have to say the novelty of fixing up wounds and setting the savannah on fire is wearing off!
It really seems like Assassin's Creed underneith with an FPS exterior and moved to Africa. By no means is it a bad game, but it isn't blowing me away at all! Those that really enjoy an FPS for the unadulterated FPS action I think will love it, but it is a little reptitive and story is lacking so far. It seems their solution to games not being many hours long these days is to add a billion side-quests and random main-quests.
Haven't checked my played time but I think last time I checked it was about 9hours or so, and i'm not that far through! They're sort of using the RPG formula - do lots of quests to 'level up' in this case leveling up is getting to Act 2 after doing loads of main story quests.
Main story quests can be done for either of the factions at war - though I think since one of my buddies went 'missing' I can only do them for the faction my other buddy likes - not sure! I really wonder where my first buddy went though, he came and helped me when I was helping my other buddy! Not sure if they're friends themselves so maybe one killed the other and isn't telling me.
On the side you have arms dealer quests which don't give you any diamonds (the currency) but unlock weapons for you. I think I did three of these before there is no more for Act I. Then for some extra money you can do assassination quests which you receive from interacting with radio towers and then you get a creepy call from someone akin to the voice of Daedalus (DX) telling you who to liquidate. I think there was four of these to do for Act I.
I did more story quests after this and I must say I like the new buddy I met right from the start! An old eastern european sounding guy who was quite funny "Thank you, thank you! Right, I go now! Uh, don't die!". My other buddy who's saved me god knows how many times now is a young american gun-ho kinda guy.
The music in the game is a mix of.. I would say: Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Predator and some African undertones in there. Heck I think the sound upon nearing a diamond briefcase is ripped straight from AC.
Graphics are absolutely gorgeous! And it runs great on "Very High", "Ultra High" with 4x AA is a bit too laggy for me, but I couldn't tell the difference from a quick look anyway - probably less agressive LoDing etc. Which by the way - is done brilliantly in this game. Sometimes even if you stare at a leaf and get closer to it, you don't notice it changing but it's a totally different shape by the time you're next to it! Very well done.
