Dead Space PC possible control fix

Lot of people claiming the mouse lag is down to vsync being on - two routes to fix:

    1. disable vsync in game, but force on through the nvidia control panel (or ATI one i guess)

    2. "Try using D3DOverrider that comes with RivaTuner to get rid of page tearing while keeping vsync disabled."

Seems to be an issue with the game's implementation - so with a bit of luck this'll work else i'm using the '360 controller to play this weekend!

Re: Dead Space PC possible control fix

I believe the problem is caused by a secondary control device which the game is accepting input from. I use the Xbox Control Driver Plus on WinXP 64-bit and an old school Xbox controller. This works great for most games, however I want to play Deadspace with a mouse and keyboard. I kept having this issue initially where my character constantly was looking at his feet, if I was using the mouse to look up it would allow me to and things seemed fine. However, as soon as i quit moving the mouse opposite of the direction my feet were in, it immediately drags my view back down to my beautiful shoes. I noticed that if I held down the left analogue button it corrected the 'look down' effect. So I decided to disable all the axis's on my Xbox controller but the problem still persisted. This time it was looking up and to the left! Anyway... to make a long story short, the problem is easily solved by unpluggin whatever joystick, gamepad, steering wheel, or any other input device you can think of. Because for some retarded reason this game doesn't have a way to specifically choose 'gamepad' or 'mouse' like most games. It tries to be all 'smart' and ends up screwing up.

So I just unplugged my Xbox controller from the lil adapter that plugs into my USB port and it disappeared from the 'game controllers' menu under control panel. Everything works great now. I initially tried the V-sync thing but that was not a success. I set V-sync back to on in the game and 'application preferred' in my Nvidia drivers.

JUST UNPLUG ALL OTHER INPUT DEVICES and 'SOME' of your control problems will be fixed.
The fact that the game has somewhat crappy mouse control on its own can't be fixed, lol!

Re: Dead Space PC possible control fix

Oops, this thread is about mouse lag, not the looking wrong direction issue, lol. Replied to wrong post/forum.

So try the Vsync thing if your having the mouse 'lag' problem.
If your having the problem I mentioned in my post above simply unplug your gamepad/joystick for now and that will allow you to play with the mouse problem free.

The opening menu/option screens are somewhat off-screen and that was apparently caused by my gamepad analogue button, because after removing in the opening menu/options look much different and are aligned in the center of the screen where they should be.

I saw this mentioned on Neowin earlier. I haven't tested yet because I haven't bought the game (yet). But from what I read, its due to the in-game's VSync limits the framerate to 30, whereas the nVidia/ATI CPs limit it to 60 (or whatever your monitor's refresh rate is...I'm used to it being 60 for me ^_^).

Re: Dead Space PC possible control fix

You could try setting the Vsync to application controlled in an NVidia system. Thats what I usually do and tend not to suffer any problems with mouse lag.

Will hopefully get Dead Space installed later this aft, will give it a try and see what I come up with

Re: Dead Space PC possible control fix

    I can confirm it works!!!

Disable vsync in game and create a profile for deadspace in the nvidia control panel forcing vsync and triple buffering on and it's suddenly completely fine!

Great game - actually enjoying it more than FC2 tbh!

Re: Dead Space PC possible control fix

Thanks Dangel. I thought the problem with mouse lag was something to do with the fact I use both a wireless and wired keyboard and mouse on the same PC.

Works a treat, looks great and on chapter 2 now

Re: Dead Space PC possible control fix

Can confirm that the 'Vsync in Nvidia CP and then vsync off in the game' fix seems to work. The mouse control in the menus and in general is still a little 'floaty' IMO, but its still playable really. Only done about half an hour, but its ace!!!

Can someone confirm ATI control panel is able to implement this work around too?

Re: Dead Space PC possible control fix

Turning Vsync ingame does the trick. Should literally work just the same with ATI owners.

I've just started and went into the room with everyone then you hit the control panel and all hell breaks loose and you have to run down the corridor while getting attacked by critters. Keep getting killed, am I actually missing something as I don't have a gun yet?
