RA3 - are EA taking the micky??

First of all when a C&C game comes out I go out and purchase it no matter what the reviews, when it is released or the spec required to play.

To my joy the new C & C Red Alert 3 came out on friday and i purchased it.

I installed the game watched the intro and was greetded witha lovely lock up which ment i had to do a hard reset. alt + f4 and ctrl + alt + delete did nothing.

Restarted my pc and updated the game. Patch number 1.03!! .03 it had only been out a day!! got to the main screen and loaded the first tutorial as i though it wouldnt be to demamnding and shouldnt casue any crash. I couldnt have been more wrong. completd the first tutoral and the game closed its self and infromed me of a fatal error.

Anyone else had any bother? In going to update my drivers ect but im sure i have the latest nvida drivers. i will check later today when im home.

    My spec
    C2D E6750
    2 GB DDR2 800 XMS2 RAM
    Geforce 8600 playing at 1440x900
    xp pro sp3

Re: RA3 - are EA taking the micky??

Installed mine yesterday - no issues at all on Vista 64-bit. I was a bit surprised by having install a patch as soon as I started the game for the first time!

I have completed the first two tutorials so far with no lock-ups. The installation takes a very long time and the game does not require the DVD to be in the drive when you start it. You can hit Escape to get past the intro videos.

Re: RA3 - are EA taking the micky??

No problems for me. Running xp.

The game is not bad, graphically very nice but a bit cartoonish. I've just finished the Soviet Campaign and its taken me less then 3 hours of gameplay.

Its not as good as I had hoped. There is no build up in the storyline, it chops and changes too quickly and the missions are too short. Adding to that not one mission in the campaign was taxing (at medium difficulty) and its not much different playing at hard. I was sort of hoping for some seriously hard last missions that would last 2 hours and would require constant reloading.

The units are really cool though, and I am pretty sure its good fun online. In terms of its factions, variety of units, and co-op feature its a really good game, I just feel that it could have been so much better with a more engaging storyline.

I am hoping the campaign for the Allies and the Japanese will be better but I doubt it.

I have what I thought were lock ups when going back to the main menu but just seems to be really slow menu response. The game play perfectly however.

I belive the menu-screen lockups were due to the update servers getting hammered.. its much better this week... even the online/co-op games work well (my only issue seems to be that the co-commander gets booted at the end of a co-op mission and you have to re-invite them for the next one.

Don't like it at all, don't like the main menu screen, cartoony graphics, the way you stick buildings down ... It just seems a step back IMO. Plus its SOOOOO buggy and slow.

If you try the Japanese campaign, the units are nice, but you'll probably not very happy you have to build a "core", then have to unpack it, on top of that you cannot queue build like a unit

Also what is it with games and proxys. Can't activate it because I am behind a proxy server, no way to change settings either that I can see. I had to do it by other means. Grr. DRM claims me as a victim of it not working right.

Re: RA3 - are EA taking the micky??

I really disliked Red Alert 3, in my opinion Red Alert 1 is even better, the only thing I liked from the complete game were the cinematics, always liked those from the C&C games.

I expected it to be something like C&C 3 Tiberium Wars in terms of graphics and storyline build up, but I was dissapointed how it turned out.
I'm back to playing C&C 3 Tiberium Wars again, simply love that game, amazing graphics, amazing gameplay, really nice campaign and a lot of fun playing with my friends, not to mention Hard and Brutal enemies are a pain in the ass ^^

Re: RA3 - are EA taking the micky??

I'm on the Allies campaign atm, so far its not bad. As said before its the storyline that lets the game down slightly. Overall so far for me its an 8/10 game for me, with a better storyline it could have easily been 9/10.

    The ladies are very nice

I got the same thing with Spore... COLLECTORS EDITION! Had to work on a manual fix for several hours! EA need to get there act together before they release a game!
