    Football Manager 2009 (PC)

    Demo is up now..... http://store.steampowered.com/app/10570/

If you download via steam you get a enhanced demo, compared to the general "vanilla" demo release.

Just started downloading. You can play for half a season and import it into the full product on release which is cool. Going to be interesting to see how the "tv mode" works.

    Re: Football Manager 2009 (PC)

Well i gave it a try..........

Ok first of all the 3D TV veiw of the players on the pitch is pretty poor. I hope there's a vast improvment in how the players move and interact with the ball. At the moment the're running sideways and without thier legs moving. There's also a prblem when the players all seem to stall and move slow, only to speed up and move normall again after a few seconds.

Then after beating some team 5 - 0 in a pre season friendly the game CTD from the main menu.

Think i'll wait till a few weeks after release to find out exactly how it's doing before i take the plunge, the initial signs are not good.

I had a crash as well when i first played. When i first played in TV view, the players were all frozen. Once i switched to Classic TV view it seems to be fine. Players move fine in this mode. Im playing in Classic-> zoomed Vertical scrolling mode - (think old sensible soccer). Im just playing with the tv for key moments, seems to work well. Will continue with rest of season to see how it goes.

I had no problems in classic view either. Takes a little getting used to the gadgets bar tho. Like the addition of distance covered by players. Has anyone managed to finish the demo yet? Does it just run to 1st January? Cant wait for the real thing.

    Re: Football Manager 2009 (PC)

I used to love this game and would buy every new release as soon as it came out. I tried this demo and really tried to like it, I'm just bored silly by it now. The new features are more of an annoyance than a benefit, this will be the first release I can remember that I wont be buying.

    Re: Football Manager 2009 (PC)

    Another issue.

I've managed to get it so it doesn't CTD every time i play. (somehow)
Played about 5 games in Prem and a few in euros and i seem to be getting 2, 3 or 4 injuries a game.

Playing westham had to sub 2 players off after 14 min and then the sub got injured. Only to then have another player get injuered with 15 min left and having to play with 10 men.
Even worse was the fact that many of my players were unproven and under 18 where so many had been injured in previous matches.

1st game of the season there were 5 players making thier debut, and they were all from the reserves. All my new signings were injured.

What the hell is going on.

    Re: Football Manager 2009 (PC)

I really hope they get this sorted as I haven't bought an FM game for a couple of years and was planning on getting this one.

I seem to recall similar problems the last time they overhauled the match engine. Might have to wait for 2010 version before SI get it right.

    Re: Football Manager 2009 (PC)

I've had a crack at the demo over the last few days. Been playing SI management games all the way from Championship Manager 2 buying every year.

I was so excited about the 3D match engine, but there seem to be some serious problems that need to be sorted out.

I didn't expect that much, given that I had read it was basically just the 2D engine underneath, rendered in 3d. However for me, it's much easier to accept strange events when you can't see them in detail. Suddenly flaws like bizzare clearances, players ignoring the ball, strange goalkeeper saves etc look much much worse. These problems were all there in the 2d engine, but it's much harder to "see" them.

This is the first year though, and I remember how many people left the game on text when the 2d engine was first introduced, until it gradually got better, and I think that is what we can expect.

Seems downloaded version is having the same issues.

Softanchor has been used on both versions so the uniloch servers have gone offline
