Kinda funny to see that headline after all the recent talks on these forums regarding "piracy killing the games market"![]()

What are you on about 'how is that accurate'? It's accurate because it is.
Are you suggesting that the sales figures aren't what matters, its if the games are good or not? Or if people still play them a certain amount of time later?
And who else apart from the general public can buy them?
Dude, are you ill?![]()
You crazy kids and your jokes.
Remember these figures include hardware, imagine how many people have bought games consoles in 2008. An Xbox 360 is the equivalent to 4 games or so on average, PS3 even more, plus the figures are done in cost and not quantity. When CD's generally cost under £10, yet a game averages anywhere between £20-£40 it's not surprising that the games industry it where more money is being made, their products cost more to buy. As mentioned above I suspect the PC games industry is still making sweet FA.
I'm sure if you included people's Hi-Fi systems in the amount of money the music industry was making then their sales figures would increase as well!
at the end of the day, gaming is increasing dramaticly
Nice working out.
'A huge shift in consumer attitudes has turned video games into the UK's most popular form of entertainment, say the retail analysts.'
'Gaming is just continuing to get more and more popularIn the last five years the video games market has more than doubled in value, while music sales have stagnated.'
Those statements tell you all you need to know though, not all this cost \ not including HiFi stuff. Yes hardware sales are included, but the point is that gaming is getting more popular, and closing the gap on things like music sales and video.
As the article says the figures are scewed by the fact they include gaming hardware. It would be a different story if we included the sale of all iPods, mp3 players and stereos onto the music sales figure.
games are fun
women, and older people are now getting in on the act, and ofcorse that is going to make a difference to global games sales
games also cost a lot more
