Well, PC for all out gaming at its peak. Give me a high-end PC, lightning fast internet connection, cheap games, and a mouse and keyboard for FPS, as well as a quality game-pad for other games, any day.

Xbox is just a mid-range PC in a box. GameCube has the best games of the 3 consoles, PS2 is the default choice for 'l33t d00ds'.

I'd say PC. GameCube 2nd, for game quality, and GBA link-up fun.

overall id have to say PC, but it's not really a fair comparison. 79 quid gamecube versus over a grands worth of pc goodies isn't exactly a fair fight.

had a ps2, got bored of it, sold it, alright though.

never had an xbox but it's basically a 3 year old pc in a crud VCR case.

gamecube on the otherhand is a different story, some classic titles that are only ever gonna be on the cube. i like my pc for online multiplayer games etc, but there are some wicked games out there that the pc just won't get, anyone fancy a game of mario kart or f zero? bwahahaha - cube roxs!

Seriously though, I think that most people who have been gaming for a good few years, say 15+, know the score now. We were there for the 8bit console wars, and the 16bit, and the next gens. Most now know where the quality is to be had.

I'll take this opportunity, if I may, to tell you the best gaming story ever.

About 6 months after I brought my GameCube, I was on a gaming forum, discussing the pros and cons of the various systems. I was in discussion with a PS2 owner, who was obviously about 14, and knew little, if anything, about gaming.

Anyway, he was throwing the usual ignorant clichés at me, regarding the GameCube, such as "GameCube only has kiddie games!"

I pointed out that I had spent the day playing Eternal Darkness: Sanities Requiem, by far the most mature, and well paced game released that year, and a Cube exclusive.

"Just a single example!" he came back with.

I pointed out that I also own Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, Metroid Prime, Ikaruga, Burnout 2, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and any other 'mature titles'.

"But they do make kiddie games!" he insisted.

I pointed out that they do indeed, and if 'kiddie' is what gave us Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, and many other classics, then long live kiddie.

"But you won't get games like BMX XXX on the Cube" he argues.

I point out (after informing him of the GameCube release dates for BMX XXX for both North America and Europe) that although this is not true, we really don't want tripe like BMX XXX on the Cube. When you have just finished Metroid Prime, that would be a bit of a come-down.

Now, by this point, he's fuming. His standard arguments aren't working, as I know because I own (or owned at that time) a Cube, and he just repeats ignorant stereotypes.

So, very flustered, and looking for something to turn the argument around, he utters, what is perhaps, the single best gaming idiot quote, of all time.

He goes "Yes! Yes! But what type of console do you think the likes of Jude Law owns?!"

I think that sums up the average ignorant gamer perfectly. Not interested in how good the system is, the quality of the games, the brilliant first-party titles, or anything that actually matters. Nope, he thinks the most important factor is that Jude Law is more likely to own a Playstation 2 than a GameCube.

Style over substance, just a little, you reckon?

Made me laugh, I can tell you, and reaffirmed 100% that most gamers, have no clue what’s going on, and either follow their 'l33t' mates like sheep, or try to be cool.

    Classic quote.

My vote is PC, then Xbox. Games I currently in to on the xbox are PGR2 (mainly online, by far the best racing experience), halo (mainly multiplayer co-op), vice city (a good grin when I get back from the pub) and mortal kombat deadly alliance (PC just doesent cut he mustard for fighting games). The online side of the xbox is what makes it for me and I have never been in to tomb raider style puzzle games. I mostly play flight sims and strategy on the PC, but also the odd bit of DoD and other FPS.

I think everyone here will be a little biased towards the PC (including me!).

I voted for the PC, since it's got the most engrossing and deep games, the best graphics, the best sound and the oppotunity to mod games.

Second I would say is the PS2, but that's mainly down for my love of Pro Evolution Soccer and the GTA games (both of which appear on the PC too, but the PS2 gets them first). I also like the fact that the console is very slim. All three consoles are butt-ugly, IMO, but at least I can hide the PS2 away where no-one will ever see it.

Third, I would go for the GC. The best multiplayer platform, IMO. Mario Kart is great fun with four players.

    PC with a PS2 controller!

My personal fave combo for most games (except FPS and Flight Sims).

To me it's not the system that matters, but the games on it!

I still enjoy games that came out for the SNES, and Zelda on the N64 was just wonderful. The Cube has some great games, and so does the (slightly aging) PS2 - the two FFX games for example. I don't know enough about the Xbox to comment.

One thing I would say in the defence of consoles is that it is great to be able to just buy something and to know that its going to work. Like many others, I can't afford to keep upgrading my PC just to keep up with the developers - and I have had enough problems with graphics drivers and buggy PC games that need constant patching to last me a lifetime...

Got a good argument in favour of the PC, mods. The amount of mods, maps, skins, maps, etc that come out for pc games makes them unbeatable imho.

    ZeroTheHero wins.

really, this is a fairly meaningless poll on a PC hardware website isn't it?

but who gives two ****s about the platform? honestly, i mean what possible relevance does the shape of the plastic box have? as long as the GAME is worth playing, let the GAMES speak for themselves!

I give a (beep) about what platform it is. I don't want anymore 'ported' games, I want games to be designed for the PC! Games consoles are all well and good, but PC's are so much more versatile, so much more upgradeable and so much more expensive.

Games consoles are ok for kids I suppose, but that's my opinion.

And also mine. Games consoles and especially the games pads are designed only for the thumbs of a hyperactive 8-year-old.
