The PS3 urgently needs a price cut

After having a look around my local shopping centre for PS3 deals last night, I can't believe how bad they are compared to the Xbox 360. Same story online.

Seems the recent Xbox360 price drop has made the gap between the two much larger. Checking out VGACharts shows that worldwide, the Xbox360 is currently outselling the PS3 by 2:1. That's huge.

It seems to be hitting games on the console too. Recently it's been reported that that Little Big Planet has been a commercial flop, which is a shame considering a UK software development house that made it. You can get it on Amazon for £21 - the game has been out just over 3 weeks, I can't remember the last time I saw such a huge drop in that time space.
It makes me wonder if the big guys in the industry, like Square, saw that remaining exclusive to the PS3 was a really bad idea?

And please don't tell me "It's worth it when you consider it has bluray" - I want a games machine, not a film player

    Any thoughts?

Re: The PS3 urgently needs a price cut

The only time I reckon PS3 consoles will be down to the Xbox 360 price range is when the PS4 is launched and all the PS3 owners sell theirs and get the PS4.

Oh and before anyone says it I'll get the joke in - I bet the xbox sales figures are due to the RROD issue and people buying replacements

I've been waiting for them to drop as well but it looks like it's never going to happen in the forthcoming 3-6 months.

The issue with the PS3 is the Blue-ray player. They can't drop the price or they will force hardware manufactures out of the blue-ray market and they really don’t want that! So they are stuck at this price until the standalone players drop their price.

It was a bit short sited of Sony to be honest.

Re: The PS3 urgently needs a price cut

The deals aren't great are they, I noticed that doing some payday spending in Merry Hill today. If I hadn't ended up with one free with my phone contract I probably wouldn't own one yet to be honest, the PS3 exclusives I do own are all awesome (LBP, Uncharted and MGS4) but not really worth the high asking price.

Sony didn't get the console shifting big hitters out early enough this time around in my opinion, where's my Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3 and Team Ico title? It might be a bit early to call if they are genuinely working on an 8/10 year lifespan but it doesn't, at least based on my taste in games justify its asking price with the PS3 exclusive titles it has on shelves now by a long shot.

    but cell is well l33t

totally agree if the ps3 had been cheaper i would have bought it over the 360. as at the time i had to sacrifice FF13 GT5 and a couple of other games.

its not so bad now as most games are coming to the 360 and i got alot more games on my 360 that are not going to be on ps3 at the moment

Blu-ray is probably the main reason for the extra exepense, however saying that blu ray is slowly edging its way into the mainstream market so yeh something needs to give.

There is only one flaw in this joke, M$ will repair Xboxs with the RROD for free so there's no need to buy a replacement!
