    COD5- PunkBuster?

    hello,

When I started to install my new copy of COD 5, I was asked if I would like to install software known as "PunkBuster". I decided to hit "no", as I read that it runs like an AV program (in the background, wasting resources). Will my multi-player game play be affected?

    Thanks!

    Re: COD5- PunkBuster?

you will get kicked off most online servers, the ones you do get on will no doubt be full of cheats and hackers.

it has a very small footprint thats inactive until the game calls it.

    hello,

Is it too late to install without having to reinstall the whole program?

    Thanks!

    Re: COD5- PunkBuster?

If you've installed any kind of online multiplayer game in the last couple years, especially FPS, then you probably have a version of punkbuster already. Most have shipped with it for a while. It's usually required to play on ranked/official servers.

Latest versions can be downloaded as standalone installs from http://www.evenbalance.com/

    Re: COD5- PunkBuster?

No it shouldn't be, it's a program that's installed seperatly. If you explore the DVD you should find the punkbuster root to install from.

On another note PB runs 2 exe's in the background A and B, I have noticed at some points they can acquire a lot of mem usage, but with updates this has deminished to it's previous low mem usage.

    Re: COD5- PunkBuster?

    download pbsetup.exe http://websec.evenbalance.com/downlo...oad.php?file=1

add a new game, codWAW and point it to the install directory, it will take care of the rest once you hit update

    Re: COD5- PunkBuster?

Like GoNz0 said you'll be kicked off the protected servers and the non PB servers will be full of cheats using the free cheats

Download PBSetup and make it find your CoD:WaW folder and it'll install it and update it for you.

    Re: COD5- PunkBuster?

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I tried running the program I found on the DVD, but all this does is run a series of checks, and then closes. Punkbuster is not detected by COD.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

    hello,

    Thanks.

Will there be any problems installing that version considering I've already installed punkbuster (not that I can find it anywhere).

    Re: COD5- PunkBuster?

There'll be no problem. What it is iirc (haven't used it since AA) is the tool will pop up a window and it might show your punkbuster games or it will have a drop down box, you select the game and then add it and choose the right path where you installed it. The tool will then download and install Punkbuster for you. There's really no game compatibilty issues with different versions of Punkbuster it'll just install the latest.

It's run from the Windows folder now. Download this (from EvenBalance) and this will uninstall Punkbuster services

I'm sorry about taking so long to reply.

If I run the uninstall program, will it remove the punkbuster service I installed using the file you linked too?

Thanks again for your help man!

Yes it will. Once it's installed, run it again and this time it will allow you to select the 2nd box which uninstalls (it auto detects the services). It'll stop the services and remove them and you'll no longer have PunkBuster running on your system. But do remember once it's gone you won't be able to play games on servers with PB enabled etc.
