Smile Street Fighter IV - PC Control Options.

Being an avid PC gamer, and as such not bothering with 'them consoles and things' I don't care much for anything other than a nice KB and mouse. However, SFIV is interesting me greatly (fond memories of SF2SE on the Megadrive). To that end, I'm wondering what the control options are these days? 360 controller perhaps?

I have a PS2 Controller+Adaptor around here somewhere, would that work with Vista 64? (Tis fine with XP64). Not done any research into this area as its been a while since I've used any kind of controller (last time was for NFS:MW to see what the rumble was like), so I appologise if this is a silly question.

Re: Street Fighter IV - PC Control Options.

X360 controller is probably worth getting for all the arcady PC games these days - wired one is easier on the drivers too.

Because you cant play it with a keyboard and mouse, so would need a third party controller to do it.

Re: Street Fighter IV - PC Control Options.

But if you *did* have a console, why on earth would you buy it on a PC? I can see zero advantages myself... I suspect you won't get the online game mode capabilities on pc as you would on xbox live for example.

Oh I see, well, there's loads of people that don't have a console. But that's a different question entirely - should maybe ask that in one of the console sub-forums.

I used to own and play Super Streetfighter 2 on my 486 and somehow perservered with keys. I even managed to pull off a few dragon punches! I think I might invest in a d-pad (or better still a SNES pad adapter) for SF4.

I don't own any consoles (except a GC I bought a few months ago for a tenner, purely to play Smash Bros). As such my gaming is done on PC.

I'm feeling some hostility in this thread, chill!

Re: Street Fighter IV - PC Control Options.

The keyboard is a much better option than the 360 pad.

I've tried both when playing Marvel vs. Capcom and SF Alpha on MAME... the 360 pad is defffffffinitely worse, mainly because in SF you have 3 punches and 3 kicks which means you ideally need 6 face buttons whilst the 360 pad only provides two.

Also pulling off special movies using the pad is much harder due to your hand being wrapped around the pad and the location of fingers (for example, your thumb has access to four face buttons meaning there's a delay in moving your thumb from one face button to another).

If you want a pad to play on then Madcatz are releasing a "Fightpad" which has 6 face buttons which should make it more accessible however i'd still say the arcade stick or keyboard would be better.

Is the Matcatz offering available for the PC though? I thought it was console only.

Well for the FightPad, i would have assumed that it would work through the 360 Wireless receiver thing that you can get for the PC.

And as for the Fightsticks, i know the Hori one is compatible with the PC so i assumed that the Madcatz ones would have been. Essentially it's just a rearrange 360 pad though isn't it ? It's all the same buttons, just better implemented for fighting games .

    Could be wrong though ¬.¬
