    Gaming pads, experience of any?

I've been looking at getting a gaming pad like the logitech g13 or belkin nostromo. Does anyone here use one and what do you think of them? Which has the best reviews or is the best in your experience?

I've lbeen looking at the cyber sniper game pad v2, belkin nostramo, g13 and wolfking warrior.

Typically console gaming pads are the best - so if you buy adaptors to make them work over USB then that's the best bet (or buy MS's 360 pad for Windows). I use my old N64 pad most of the time using an "Adaptoid" adaptor.

XBOX360 wired is the best I've used for pc gaming by far. I even use it for FSX as its just so much less hassle than getting the joystick out.

Another vote here for the MS 360 control pad. Good compatibility with console games that have been ported over to PC as well.

Re: Gaming pads, experience of any?

I'm looking at PC gaming pads rather than the console style pads, the ones which are pads with keys rather than a d pad and buttons.

It's for FPS AND MMORPG games, need keys and mouse, a dpad style gamepad won't cut it for those games.

I can't link anything here yet but if you enter the names of the ones I mentioned in my first post you'll get the idea. Just wondering if anyone has used any of them.

Re: Gaming pads, experience of any?

You mean a sort of specialist sub-keyboard for FPS/MMORPG use?

There's a review of the wolfking here:
    http://gaming.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=9277

As far as I can tell, they're not usually all that great, better to get a nice keyboard in the first place.

Re: Gaming pads, experience of any?

for FPS, MMORPG and RTS it's gotta be K+M.. racing games, steering wheel.. and anything else is where the controller works.

but it's definitely another vote for the XB360 controller.
only £20, easily customizable for only about £20 maximum.. making £40 for a unique controller
i'll post some pictures of my customized XB360 controller tomorrow when i'm on my PC.

red LEDs around the ring instead of green.
coloured LEDs in the ABXY buttons and painted the outer casing with matt black paint.

i've also tried that G13 thingy you said you'd been looking at, imo, it's the most horrible thing i've ever used on a PC!
i think you'd get better gaming cabilities from a laptop trackpad and the laptop keyboard tbh.

Re: Gaming pads, experience of any?

They aren't worth it, no. I've got a Wolfking that i don't use because tbh it's a pain in the arse to keep setting it up. I don't have room for both it and a keyboard on my desk so every time i wanted to play a game i had to switch them over. You'll also find that there's one or two keys that need to be remapped in every game and that the layout of the keys takes a bit of getting used to.

You gain nothing over a keyboard really other than desk space, making it useful for flight sims and not a lot else.
