    Angry Steam...... Scream more like

Bought me self The Last Remnant on PC today. Seeing as the 360 version had issues. I thought It would be okay. Oh all the advantages the PC version has over the 360.

Well, sat down and popped it in my PC. You should have seen how quickly the smile on my face disapperared. You need to install Steam first. No problem I thought. Before the fresh install of windows I had Half Life 2 on me PC.
Oh dear. All these hours passed today and the only thing the PC has let me install is Steam Yep, it connects to the internet and after a few minutes informs me "unable to load library steam.dl" After frantic googling I sussed it may well be to do with my firewall. I've changed all the settings in my firewall to give Steam as much control as possible.

The only other advice I had not tried is to turn all firewall and antivirus off. Oh yeah, bloody brilliant that.

So just wondering. Is there like some winged gremlins somewhere that make steam? Just a joke to piss on someone's day? I pay full price for a game only to discover I cannot even bloody install it.

I bet the bloody gits who got hold of a pirated copy are not having this problem. Thank you Steam for pissing on my day. great that.

    Re: Steam...... Scream more like

Try starting from scratch and not using whatever steam install app was bundled with the game.

You can find the official downloader here http://store.steampowered.com/ on the left hand side, try that instead.

If ya do manage to get it working let us know what ya think, as ive been thinking about getting it but it has mixed reviews.

Thanks. Already tried that. On Norton 2009's smart Firewall I set Steam to use All TCP and UDP. I even set it use everything in all fields earlier. This is annoying

If you use a router they will need opening on the router as well.

It's almost impossible to troubleshoot with Nortons firewall installed - it just takes over that much crap behind the scenes that you're never quite sure if it's causing an issue or not.

It really is crap at the best of times (You blocked a ping because you suspect it was an "ATTACK!?!"....seriously?)

I am using an O2 USB modem. Okay, not good for online gaming or downloading large files.

But when I set up steam account with Half Life 2 I was using a T-Mobile USB modem and that did the job fine.
I am now messing around with O2 connection manager. I'll see if I can get that working

Okay. Okay. I fail at computer. I have no idea why this is not working. I FAIL

I've NEVER had to edit ANY router to use steam.

Try uninstalling the norton firewall. Just to see. You can always put norton back on later.

I disabled all of Norton internet security. Tried to run Steam and got the same error
I'm certain I had no internet security

Wait a sec.. when you say you have an O2 USB modem, you don't actually mean a DSL modem that plugs into your USB port do you.. you're doing something funny with mobile 'internet'?
