    L4D Bug - PC

OK, so I been suffering a problem where the game would just bomb out after looping the sound and effectively locked up.

Turns out its a known L4D bug and mine is "- Error: "the nv4_disp display driver has stopped working normally"-crash after looping sound. [*patched?]"

    Massive list here.

All I hope is that there is an eventual fix for my problem.

The whole reason I got this for the 360 to, I got the same issue's as yourself on the PC version so I found a copy for the 360 for £6 and I can quite happily play on that for hours on end without problems

    Re: L4D Bug - PC

    [Problem]
My L4D is crashing to desktop.
    [Solution]
#1- If you use Vista, disable visual themes when running the game.
#2- Disable V-Sync in advanced video options.
#3- Turn off Multicore in advance video options.
#4- Make sure Steam Cloud is disabled. [see next problem]

    [Problem]
Cannot get rid of Steam cloud - Game keeps crashing!
    [Solution]
If you left Steam Cloud checked and cannot run the game without it crashing:
1- Go to Registry Key in regedit:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps\1\Clou d
It will have a default value of 0x00007fff (32767) meaning steam cloud is enabled
2- Set the value to 0 to disable steam cloud.
    -OR-
delete this key and the dialog box will pop up again next time you run left4dead.exe.

I had the same issue a little while back (after the Jan patch), but fixed it by turning off "multicore".

    Re: L4D Bug - PC

Tried the fixes above and they didn't seem to work. I am finding myself sticking with the 360 version as it seems most of my mates have jumped to it leaving the pc version alone.

    Re: L4D Bug - PC

The only problems I have with L4D on PC are

    a) Lobby system is buggy

b)People quitting half way through a game cause they are getting beat - we need some kind of negative feedback system.

    Re: L4D Bug - PC

I've not had any major problems with L4d just a few minor ones I've observed are:

    1. The whole team spawning as dead in campaign mode, this has happened twice in No Mercy after entering the safe house in the hospital... very strange, red tint to the screen as well.

    2. On the final campaign (Bloody harvest is it called? I forget), safe house door wouldn't open after loading the next section.

    3. Occasional crash to desktop with no error messages, probably happened 2 or 3 times since I got it.

    4. Occasional crash when shutting down the game with "programme is not responding" message.

The lobby system seems fine to me, I've had no problems with it at all. sometimes I can't find a server to start a game (might download the dedicated server and host myself sometimes).

As for negative feedback, I'd second that: I've had people run off on their own being abusive when the rest of the team couldn't get to them on time. People turning on the rest of the team for no apparent reason and we couldn't take them out because the AI kept reviving them! Overall though I've played with some very nice people including someone from hexus

I didn't get any issues last night through 2 hours of gaming...weird.

Regarding negative feedback...it may work though in my case I would have gotten negative feedback from the versus game I played last night. Firstly my team berated me for "running off"...I would berate them for wanting to kill every fricking zombie they see and what happens..? You get boomered, smokered and pounced by hunters. I then got kicked when I became Tank...I just died as an infected so rather than sit and wait 20 seconds for respawn I went to the loo. Came back I was Tank, slapped a survivor and got kicked for being "abusive".

However it would be great if the negative feedback was such that it stopped randoms joining versus/campaign just to kill team mates.

    Re: L4D Bug - PC

also I think it would be all too easy to get a lot of negative feedback as a new player, of course that would depend on who you were playing with. I played a game last night where we had one very new player on our team and we had to keep saving him and healing him... he was a mentalist, was quite funny to watch I think he thought he was playing unreal tournament or something the way he was jumping around and running at the hordes... mind you he was american Anyway we were a good natured bunch and just gave him some friendly advice.

Quick question... why is there never anyone on the hexus server? is it laggy or something? I usually check it before I start any other games so if anyone is on there I'm liable to join.

Then I will hang about the hexus server tonight.

BTW I sometimes play L4D like Unreal etc. jumping around, shooting and falling from heights

EDIT: I witnessed last night Tank spawn on TOP of a survivor! Made me laugh as a I ran away. So random...yet funny. That bug should STAY in the game.
