    CryENGINE 3!

Seems to be more optimised for consoles:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/87946/Cry..._GDC_Expo.html

I wonder if this means that that Crytek will have two engines - one optimised towards appearance for PCs and one optimised towards performance for consoles?? Of course perhaps the newer CryENGINE 3 is a more optimised and scaleable version of the CryENGINE 2??

    Re: CryENGINE 3!

According to an article i read looks like it's gonna be an optimised scablable Cryengine 2. probably some tweaks for appearance aswell as significant performance boosts. lets hope we can rid ourselves of that Unreal 3 Engine..personally i really dislike it.

Hopefully this does bring better performance than cryengine 2, and will be interesting to see how it goes on the consoles

    3ghz Tri-core CPU, ATI 1900, 512mb ram.

    Simple

Doesn't actually look very good to me - textures were especially poor. The water and physics was quite nice though.

    Re: CryENGINE 3!

I can hardly tell the difference between this and Cryengine 2?! Slightly better water and lighting effects. Physics look a slight improvement. Textures look basically the same!

Remember though that this will still be in the early dev process and will most likely change significantly in the time between now and release

The majority of the games built on that engine just all look the same to me... very gritty and overly specular in places. Just my personal asthetic opinion of the engine. I am aware there are games using that engine that have had alot of work put into them by the developer and as such do not look like an unreal engine 3 game.

I agree it's a good looking engine and because of that alot of games use it but most games do look like gears of war in one form or another.

Maybe rid ourselves was a bit strong but something else in the mix i gladly welcome.

    Re: CryENGINE 3!

    I know.
Earlier in the thread i mentioned that i'd like to see less of the unreal engine and finally the cryengine 3 gives developers another engine to use, and it looks great.

    Hmm
I dont know if ts my laptop screen but the textures did look quite poor. The lighting and phsyics looked good tho. I think CE2 looks better in terms of textures. Hopefully as they say its "optimised", it will run better on mid range PCs.
