Finlay, bit of a rude response mate. Some people are not that computer literate, as stupid as it sounds it just doesn't occur to them to use google because they see it as a problem they aren't qualified to deal with. (not saying your like that russ, just making a point)

Russ: try varying your google search to include your gpu, OS etc etc and see what comes out. Have you tried Bethesda's forums?

Really? The simple search returned a page full of answers, some not applicable (but how the hell am I supposed to know which are applicable or not when all I have to go on is a log???), there was no information on what they have tried, their spec (could be different to the details), drivers, operating system or ANY other information. Can't even tell which version of the game as a pre patched version or patched or not at all (don't know the version number), if it's a new issue after a spec/driver change or anything like that. Not even how the problem could be reproduced if it was possible to do so (e.g. play for 2 hours, go into x area, do y action)

Might not be qualified to deal with the problem but some more information might help.

Posting a dump and asking why doesn't help anyone

Oh, your computer won't boot into windows, here hold my tea while I bend over and pull the magical answer out of my jacksie with no more information and NO IDEA what the real problem is. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN, YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO GIVE MORE INFORMATION THAN A CRASH DUMP

Might be rude, infact it very well may be, but I have no patience for people who post such little information and expect a solution. I would say there should be a sticky for how to help yourself, but no one would read it as people would either already know, or be too lazy to do so.

Come on chaps, play nice. I'm guessing Fin hasn't had his coffee yet...

However, I think the point finlay is not so elequantly making is that we'll help you, but need a little more info. We can help you find the solution, but we'd appreciated a little help along the way.

    Re: fallout3 problem

I'm not sure I would have known to Google the exception code (rather than "OMG Fallout 3 haz crashed!1!1!, plz halp") if this ever happened to me, but then I am a bit of a luddite.

Mate, this is the best place for this problem: OFFICIAL FALLOUT 3 FORUM / HARWARE SOFTWARE ISSUES. NEXT YOU CAN CHOOSE PC OR CONSOLE. IT'S WORTH A LOOK HERE. AND MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

Well it's more information than I get from half the issues at work, the number of times I have had to repress the urge the erge to apply a heavy blunt object to someone head when I get a call because "it doesn't work" that's it, not what "it" is that doesn't work or what they mean by "doesn't work"
Point in case, today I had a call because a laptop couldn't log on, what I discover is they cannot log on beacuse they cannot type in their pass word because someone has pulled two keys off the keyboard

    Sorry bad day at work

But I do agree with you, google is your friend, look it up first! and the offical forums is always a good place to start.
If you cannot find the problem then ask for help.
Mentioning the fact you've done a search and cannot find anything directly related to your problem helps geta better responce from others.

    Re: fallout3 problem

I had a very similar day to you Pob255, I drove 45 minutes to a user today who complained that there pc wouldn't log on and their phone had stopped working. For some reason that I just couldn't get out of them they had swapped the cables over in the wall ports. These are the very same people who complain when they log a call they are not seen the same day.

Well I provided a link to a vast number of solutions, but the only reply from that was
"A lot of those are for nvidia cards, I don't have an nvidia card"

Which obviously REALLY helps narrow the problems down and does suggest that the OP didn't look for solutions beforehand.

I could have asked for more info, but I provided a link to a google search and a forum with the same crash dump and was told it was wrong
"so most of the info from this search is no good for me"

So makes me wonder why this was never pointed out in the first place.

It is lazyness to not provide a more comprehensive set of information someone trying to help you fix a problem you are having.

As I said, I don't have patience for those who cannot be bothered to even try to help themselves before they ask for help.
