    Money to burn...

    As thread title says.

    Suggestions for computer games?

I just completed Orange Box and having got bored of getting stuck on Portal: Prelude (which I am currently trying to complete.... sometime when I need to struggle over something I'll load it up) I guess that it means I need to dig around for a new game.

I enjoy most genres, so anything and everything, presuming you can justify why I should buy the game and the cost of the game

Is Empire Total War worth the pricetag? And is DoW2 worth it? Is it worth getting Crysis for my computer (specs hopefully under my name.. if not soon will be)? Are there any older games that I should buy into?

My only restriction is that it can't require constant internet access to play. Otherwise I wouldn't be asking for any new games as I'd be playing EVE constantly.

I can find an internet connection to install/activate a game and to revocate a liscence should I ever need to (although having just bought 1TB HDD, I'll be shocked if I have to uninstall any games for the next 6-12 months or so.)

Oh yes.. and has to be a 15 (BBFC) or 16+ (PEGI) or you have to link me up to an amazon place. Downsides of not being 18 yet

    Thanks

command & conquer saga - having 61 games + some expansion packs installed on my computer (still got a fair few left to install), its C&C that i'm playing the most. doesnt include C&C3 Kanes Wrath or Red Alert 3. great fun, highly addictive and it's a classic.

Gothic - german RPG game, interesting storyline, replayability - different guilds to join which alter the storyline. make sure to get golden mod for part 1 - adds a buttload of new stuff. some may say the gothic series is buggy as hell but thats where some of the gothic charm comes from, it's what makes it gothic.

area 51, the suffering, full spectrum warrior - FREE to download, theres a thread around sept/oct last year with the links in, they're FREE!!

theres a bunch of other FREE games on here - http://www.gameshadow.com/gamepedia/free.php

    Re: Money to burn...

buy the original Far Cry - classic game, was graphically way ahead of its time (2004 game) and a reasonably good storyline...

its a nice cheap buy anyway!

either that or Elder Scrolls Oblivion if you havent got that already - massive scale RPG game and has loads of great mods.

    Re: Money to burn...

I'd say DOW2 is worth it - one of the best games I've played recently. It's a 16+pegi, and currently on offer at Amazon for 18 quid:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Warhammer-40...0138694&sr=8-1

Does require internet connection to activate (Steam - but you still install the game from disk), I don't know whether the GFWL part also requires online connection - I know I started one campaign with an online profile and now it wants me to be online for that profile, not tried creating a new one, but reviews on amazon say you can be offline to play.

As for why I like it.. it seems to be a unique blend of RTS and RPG, and it feels a bit more like the tabletop game, only insanely intense at times. The graphics are great, the tactical choices you have are numerous especially with the squad selection/loadout/skills etc. and there are just so many moments when you sit back and survey the absolute carnage of surviving a tyranid swarm and go 'that was cool'.

Burnout Paradise is good for a quick blast if you have a gamepad. Again you need internet to activate, but once activated you can play offline - however it's very well hidden - you have to escape out of the log in and it eventually lets you play offline.

I got a copy of Dead Space from Tesco Direct for under £12. Great game for that price though it's a bit easy and you have to fiddle with the settings a bit before the controls work properly.

    Re: Money to burn...

Found myself a few games. Thanks everyone!

I'll revive this thread or start a new thread when I have another bit of money to burn. Give me a month or so to complete these ones.

Last question, however, is whether or not Mirrors Edge is worth it. Anyone know?
