Isn't this just really sad behaviour? Who would want to knock out a website that just exists for fans and mods etc.?

Yup, and unfortunately, it is just because they can
I saw this before, couldn't believe it, have never heard of the website or anything before but after having read what the site is all about it makes me really sad that someone feld the need to destroy it this badly, its one thing to take down a site, its a LOT worse that they completely destroyed the whole site and any method of getting it back I hope that the users of the site get something back and it gets sorted, it would be ashame for the whole community to be destroyed because of it.
Just curious, and it depends if it was their own kit in a datacentre or whether it was a dedicated server they rented, wouldn't the hosting company have backups in case of hardware failure or fire etc?
Pretty damn idiotic.
I read about it earlier and it was pretty damned mean-spirited of whoever did this.
I suppose the one positive is that it does ram home the importance of off-site back-ups.. though it's pretty difficult to take anything positive out of the situation, really. :-|
