360 wireless pad - works really well and what with Games for Windows Live games having a prerequisite for having to support the 360 pad (And the fact that a lot of games nowadays are cross platform), you tend not to have to faff about with trying to come up with your own control scheme these days... Good on batteries too, and very comfortable, esp the triggers, which are great for driving games (Works awesome with GRID)... 2p

I actually use my N64 pad via an Adaptoid cable. This is perfect for me as I find it comfortable for both analogue and digital pad use. If you haven't got an N64 pad lying about then +1 for the 360 pad.

Thanks for the help everyone. I got the 360 controller but got the wired one as it was cheaper.

360 pad is great for modern games on your PC, for old fashioned retro gaming though, where you might want to use the dpad, look elsewhere - the dpad on the 360 controller is the worst dpad in the entire history of gaming. It is beyond useless.

PS3 controllers have a nice D-pads and analog sticks. It's all down to personal preference.

yet another vote for the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller/receiver, i am going to order one when funds allow. Since i don't really play xbox anymore, and GRID is hard with Arrow keys

Have a look at the Logitech Rumblepad 2 (corded or cordless). They're the dog's nuts...

That'll explain why I am not a big fan of the 360 controller then. I definitely prefer d-pad when it's an option, especially for fighting games.
