Recommend me a good strategy game for a low GFX powered laptop

Can anyone recommend me a decent fairly recent strategy game that would be playable on a laptop with decent spec CPU etc, but rubbish intel graphics chipset?

If you're into space, then GalCiv 2 is good. I think the latest one is "Ultimate Edition", with 2 or 3 expansion packs included.

    Defcon and Plants vs Zombies.

Both on Steam, as well as Civ IV.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War should run pretty well.
The game and expansions are available as a bundle for a good price right now.

You may also be able to get away with Company of Heroes, can always download a demo first just in case.

I find COH really stressful on the GPU but I think if he turns the graphics down it should be pretty good. DoW is immense fun but is also quite sensitive on the GPU power.

Yea, that's true - would require lowering those graphics settings.
I was surprised to find DoW running okay on a netbook. Worth testing for such great games.

    Red Alert.

The first one - not 2, 3 or any of the other C&C games in the series..stick with Red Alert - best game of the C&C series anyway

Just don't be put off by the old graphics..the gameplay is still just as good as with any modern strategy game..if not better

If you like turned based squad games then the commados games should be ok. If your laptop can handle it though and these types of games are your thing, I highly recommend silent storm.
