    Trine

Here's a game I am looking forward to, after playing the demo through Steam.
    http://trine-thegame.com/site/

There's a fair bit of bitching on the forums (even though the game isn't out yet) about the price, but if it entertains me then what the hell
I like my games with a bit of a puzzle more than button-bashing (the Prototype boss fights just irritated me after the immense fun of roaming and mounting "tactical" attacks).

I am liking the look of that A lot, though from the gameplay trailer it does seem to rely a lot on just crates & boxes. Having said that, there are a lot of absolutely superb indi games released on steam.

    Re: Trine

It kind of looks old school. Like when I was younger and you got that game with nice petty graphics.

But at the same time it offers something new. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

looks nice that. As the PS3 'Little Big Planet' showed, there is a market for 3D/2D platformers.

Looking really good though the price seems a little steep for what you get..prices seem to be different around the world too.
Will wait and see on this one.

    Re: Trine

A charming little game, this. Lovely looking game, takes me back to that Amiga game when you can 3 characters (vikings?) and used the abilties of each character to navigate the levels - yes, a up-to-dae version of that. The thing about this newer game is that the puzzles are physics-based.

Yes, The Lost Vikings it was.

    Re: Trine

I loved it... right until the end, when they did a "Braid" on me
The final level is more towards the arcade twitch platform game than the excellent puzzler it was up until that point.

The variety of ways you can solve each puzzle is great, with a nice twist of getting items to upgrade the 3 characters plus they level up and have 3 specials each.

The graphics, physics and puzzle elements were all top-notch, I don't regret buying it at all - a real blast from the past a la Lost Vikings and Thunderbirds.

    Re: Trine

    Out in highstreet shops today.

I notice mention of co-op play with different characters.

Is this good in single player? And are you just one of the characters or do you switch characters as you play?

    Re: Trine

Co-op is on the same machine only, so with 3 controllers & 3 people you can have all 3 characters active at the same time (apparently, never tried it).

In single player mode you use keys 1-3 to switch between the characters instantly.

Probably easiest to download the playable demo to see what you think of it, it leads you through the initial scenario introducing the 3 characters.

    Re: Trine

Great game, just wish I bought it when Steam had it on the 5-day deals a couple of days ago

I played the demo a few weeks back and it seemed to work really well although I did get a little fed up of the "Physics" Wizard chap!

Here's hoping they put it on special again soon!

FWIW I also have one of the earlier games the designers made (Shadowgrounds), worth a look if you like Aliens!

    Cheers,
    Harv

    Re: Trine

I bought Trine in the Steam new year's sale for about a fiver (£4.74 I think).

Oh my god! Even better than Braid, IMO. Definitely worth it at that price - probably even worth it at full price (certainly worth it for anything less than a tenner, anyway).

I finished the game in about 6 hours total, but I'm pretty slow, so it's probably about a 4-5 hour game for most people. But since then I've not been able to stop playing. I've clocked up 30 hours over the last week getting all the different steam achievements.

Seriously, wonderful game. Graphics are beautiful, game mechanics are perfect. Just want more content. Bring on Trine 2.
