    H.a.w.x

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has the above mentioned game (H.A.W.X).
I have had the game for a little under a week and since day one it freezes every 30 seconds to 1 minute for about 10 - 15 seconds.

At first I thought this may have been due to not restarting the PC after the install, so decided decided to give it a rest until the following day.

Since then the first opportunity I got to try the game was yesterday, still had the same problem.

I have googled this a number of time's and all seem to come back to one of the two thing's.

They all seem to point to Steam or DirectX 10.

Problem is I don't have the game through steam, nor do I use DirectX 10.

The game hardware detection thing says my PC is more than capable of running the game, but to be sure I turned a lot of the setting's down to medium or low, just to check if there might have been a setting causing this, but alas no luck it still freeze's every 30 seconds - 1 minute without warning.

I dont have this problem with any other game I have on the PC.

So, I was wondering did/ does anyone have this game, if so did you have this problem and how did you stop it from happening?

    Ta

    Re: H.a.w.x

I've had some weird problems with this game. Mainly it was just freezing when it came to select my game profile in the menu. The trick was to start it from a dx9 shortcut. Something like hawx_dx9.exe instead of the default hawx_dx10.exe.

Try that, it may or may not work. Also allow it access to the internet (add it as a trusted/allowed app in your firewall), some games need online access to play offline.

I love HAWX and even spent a fair wedge on a flight-stick just so I can play this properly.

I've not experienced the issue you are personally, but have you tried enabling V-Synch and triple buffering as this fixes some of the issues.

If your using an nvidia card, they updated HAWX to 1.02 to remedy this. Are you running the latest patched version of HAWX?

I did like HAWX. But it got very boring and quite repetitive very quickly. I think I was quite near the end when I gave up.

    Re: H.a.w.x

Hey guys first thanks for the replies.

Any hard drive grinding happening? Or something running in the background?
    - Nope, I tend to close everything when I go into games.

    - I will try the Direct X shortcut you mentioned, not sure why this would work if I am not actually using DX10? :s But anything is worth a try to get this game working smoothly. Im sure I saw that mentioned, I will look and see if I can find some more information when I am home.

    - I love the game, I have the Saitek Cyborg Evo, have had it for a while, never really had a game I thought did it any justice and was about to sell it then got this cheaply so thought why not, and I am glad I did.

I will check the V Sync and buffering (almost typed buggering there ) and see if that helps.

I am pretty sure that the game is patched up to the latest version, as when I went to run the game it said that there was an update so I told it to go ahead and do it's thing. So I assume it is updated to 1.02, however I will check when I get home and double check the game is patched up.

Again thanks for the replies. All I want is to be able to fly around happily and shoot stuff without freezing, its strange when the video pauses the voice's/ talking seem's to carry on.

I did like HAWX. But it got very boring and quite repetitive very quickly. I think I was quite near the end when I gave up.
    - I am still loving the game, it is something different from the usual FPS games I play and with me playing more than one game, currently, H.A.W.X, CoD4, TF2, ArmA2 and something else but I cant remember what so I guess my changing between games helps.

    Re: H.a.w.x

Nope all temps stay around 40 - 45 degree's when under load..I run other games, for a lot longer without trouble.

IF it is heat, this will be a problem of the future when I get to complete a little upgrade.

    Re: H.a.w.x

Well the game appears to be running under DX9 mode according to the target in the shortcuts properties, will have a look later and see if it makes a difference running from the H.A.W.X folder itself.

    Re: H.a.w.x

I use the Cyborg Evo stick as well, its not bad with this game, and it auto installed all the buttons which I was very impressed about!

have you tried cranking down all the settings to basic? This should tell you whether its graphic related or not

    Re: H.a.w.x

I have had everything on low, i have messed around with all sorts of settings.
The system should be able to run it without any problems at all as it runs other games fine.
I am lost as to what to try, my next step will be to turn all sound effects down and see if this resolves anything.

    Re: H.a.w.x

See I am not running on DX10 and I cant for the life of me find a fix to this problem and it's frustrating that I cant play for more than 1 minute before it freezes, then wait 15 seconds until it unfreezes then off I go.
