Help! recurring issue is trying to kill me!!!!

Hello. I am trying to find out why my WoW is crappy. I have a problem that because i cannot get fixed it is slowly driving me insane. I have about 5-10 fps anywhere i go. In town. in BG. in the wild.
Also can't get below 2000 ms latency. On two computers. I have changed to new two (much better all around) computers. I have upgraded to a dd-wrt router from a really bad dlink. The internet everywhere else is blazing speeds. The router is able to show it is getting awesome speed. But non of this speed is getting to wow. What the heck????? I don't know what to do that i havent done. I don't think its the provider because everything else works great. And the strangest thing is that one computer is much worse than the other. my husbands. He had a 1.80ghz p4 and is now using a 2.8ghz.
He was using a old geforce Rage video card. He is now using a geforce FX5500. He was using a CRT that would over heat. He is now using a Samsung 20 inch. he used to have 512mem. Now he has 1.75gb mem. What am i not doing?

Please help me. I am a noob to the mod game but I can learn.

Re: Help! recurring issue is trying to kill me!!!!

Please go to www.speedtest.net and run a test there, then paste the results (copy forum link) into a reply here. 'Speed' is separate from 'latency', so you could well have blazing internet speeds, yet still have very high latency.

I would make sure that these ports are open on your modem.

Re: Help! recurring issue is trying to kill me!!!!

Okay so you do have a normal latency internet connection, so it is something specific to WoW. Either there's a problem at their end (sometimes happens at peak periods, but unlikely to be for any length of time) or there's a problem at yours stopping the packets getting through - as Andy3536 suggests, make sure your modem/router is set up to allow communication on the ports required for WoW. Also check your windows firewall settings and make sure there is an exception for WoW/Battlenet. If you need help with how to do that just ask.

Re: Help! recurring issue is trying to kill me!!!!

One of my friends had a geforce 5 card and he suffered a similar problem, his latency would rocket and he would get real bad FPS, like 3 in 25 man raids.

He bought a new machine and he hasnt had the problem since.

You probably also get disconnected from server when its real busy in town?

Re: Help! recurring issue is trying to kill me!!!!

So let me get this straight, you're trying to run World of Warcraft on an FX5500. A budget graphics card from 5 years ago.... I'm thinking that might be the problem...especially with a 20" monitor!

Splash some cash on a semi-decent graphics card. You need to upgrade that graphics card. Look for an 9800pro on Ebay. Should cost you about £20-30 (Read $40)

    Edit: Here's one

Re: Help! recurring issue is trying to kill me!!!!

The FPS issue is entirely down to the poor quality graphics card, the latency could be many different issues, but the first things to check are your firewall and router to ensure the correct ports are open (Ports 3724, 6112 and 6881-6999).

I tend to use http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html to my speed. Find that speedtest.net site unreliable at times.

Re: Help! recurring issue is trying to kill me!!!!

I'd say for certain that the FX5500 is the cause of all this. Either a 9700 Pro or a 9800 Pro will make all the difference in this instance (as others have stated)

Re: Help! recurring issue is trying to kill me!!!!

was using a gefore 4xxxx series on previous system. I upgraded to geforce 5 due to friend using same card on WoW with no issues. I guess he just lucky. I go look for the 9800pro and try that.
