Half Life 2 Episode 2 Ending **Spoilers!**
I just completed Half Life 2 Episode 2 on the PC. It was better compared to Episode 1 as it felt longer and graphics were improved. The story line was dark, sinister & dramatic as it should be in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi game, with nice twists and contrasts in the tale, but what greatly surprised me was the ending!
How could they have killed Dr. Eli Vance, a key role character in such a culminating pivotal moment, right before they embark on their search for the Borealis science vessel in the Arctic? Twice he tried to reveal something to Gordon about the sinister past at Black Mesa, but was interrupted and said that they would talk about it later! So what were those dark secrets and who will reveal them now, the G-Man?
I prefer sad / dramatic endings over the smirky / corny endings we usually get in modern boring Hollywood films, but I think they should have saved such an event for Episode 3.
Over all this is an awesome series and can’t wait for Episode 3! Anyone know of the release date?

i dont know the release date but these episodes were supposed to be rleased like 5 months apart from each other! its been more like 1-2 years!
episode 3, everyone is waiting for if it will ever come is another story, feels as though they havent bothered with it and moved on to other games such as L4D
but do have a look at that new mod coming soon by a 3rd party group, half life 1 but in HL2 source graphics, looks incredible judging from the screenies :)

The cynic in me reckons that they are saving it all up for another "orange box" type pack to bolster the price of an episodic game.

Maybe they've ported over to Source Engine 2 for the final chapter? Obviously we don't know if there even is a Source Engine 2, but the delay is overly suspicious.

I agree with this. That said I play TF2 from time to time and loved everything about Portal, so I would be happy with this. Though I wouldn't mind Episode 3 being a full priced, stand alone game... I feel the Half Life story deserves a lengthy conclusion.
This thread makes me want to play back through Half Life

I’m really looking forward for this Half Life 1 remake:
http://www.blackmesasource.com/
They say it’ll be out this year!
http://twitter.com/BlackMesaDevs/statuses/2904435262
Which is a good thing it's coming now, as I’ve never completed the 1st Half Life back in 1999!
When I replayed it 2 years ago, I thought the graphics looked bad even for 1999 standards, so I didn’t play more than 2-4 levels. Even the atmosphere wasn’t as imposing as it’s hyped to be.
Hopefully this enhanced version will be good enough to encourage me to beat it.

Man - that mod looks sooo good - I remember thinking that half life source would be like that, but well, it wasnt and I never really played through HL1 again - this looks great though...

To be fair, Episode 2 offered far more than most of the shovelware on the shelves these days. It is episodic content only in name imo. I mean the 8-10 hour campaign is more than some similar full games offer.
Half Life one was groundbreaking back in the day. I remember getting my ass kicked by the AI on the uplink demo, or maybe I was just really bad :D. It will be very nostalgic to play the remake.
Also, the people demand more Portal :D
If Portal was a cake (a truthful one ;)), it would be slathered in butter-cream icing. NOM NOM NOM
