According to Edge Online, Kotick made the statement at a recent earnings call after he was asked about Activision's pricing strategy.

With news that Modern Warfare 2 will retail at £54.99 (with the Prestige Pack selling for £119.99), Kotick and publishing boss Mike Griffith both revealed that the game's price points had been met with strong sales support.

"As far as the premium priced product, you know, collector's editions and things like that, I'd say we're seeing probably more interest than we have in the past on the collector's editions, so that's a pretty good indication of the interest in these franchises," said Kotick.

"You know if it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further."

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is due to be released for the 360, PS3 and PC in November.

Re: Activision desires further price hikes

Seems to be contradictory- title says activision desire further price hikes, while Mr Kotick says if it was left to him he'd like to raise prices further. Presumably it's not left to him or he wouldn't say that, therefore activision can't desire further price hikes.

Re: Activision desires further price hikes

I do feel quite hard done by about the news about price rises - then I realised that for AAA titles on the SNES, I used to not blink twice to spend £69.99 on a game.... (SF2 in case you were wondering)... but i guess we have been spoilt for an awful long time. Mind you, I guess every company wants to increase their bottom line, regardless...

@Kaniel - nice spot... You should be a lawyer

I think they are going the wrong way about it. The more they raise the price the more pressure they will be under to make a bug free game.

I think DLC is the way to go. Fallout 3 are doing it. Dragon Age will be doing it. If their game is good they will get a fan base and people who will want to download their new content.

Re: Activision desires further price hikes

They're talking about strong pre-order sales, but places like play.com have the pc version at £34.99, so nowhere near the much-higher prices, so I doubt that's a valid argument for increasing prices, as this is pretty much near to normal brand new pc game prices. Even console versions are at £44.99 there, so £10 cheaper.
