Toca 2 and close combat invasion Normandy are my all time greats
Elite was the first game that got me completely into computer games - I was 10, I had an Electron, the brainiest kid in scholl had a Beeb and told me all about this game where you flew around the galaxy fighting, exploring and trading. Before I discovered D&D it really was like an alternative reality.........................However I could not dock for the life of me, If I played on my mates computer with a docking computer I was fine, but I never got the skill of docking right - and boy did I try
So for that reason I am left with a difficult choice:
- and TBH with a slightly misspent youth and a dodgy memory I can't say what my favourite game of all time is.
Wolfenstein was my reason for buying my first PC and started a long relationship with SP FPS's so that's pretty key to me.
Bards Tale on the amiga was my first proper computer RPG and I LOVED it.
Baldurs Gate 2 is my single favourite ever RPG of all time
- however If I had a couple of hours of gameplay left in me and I had to devote it to one game right now I would turn on Quazatron on the speccy and start clearing that ship

Almost forgot that little gem; there is a Boo and Minsc appreciation website somewhere!

bubble bobble on the C64 - many a late night (10pm was late when i was a nipper) was spent trying to achieve my ultimate goal, single handedly finishing every level without using the level skip umbrellas and not losing a life. 16.5 million points i got.
many many weeks were lost when my dad bought our first PC a £4000 P133 from panrix, this was all down to Duke Nukem. i managed to recreate my entire house in the level editor. i started adding the garden but then quite a few different games caught my attention, all of which i still have to this day, 15 years later.
2 slightly melted and broken computers since - both broken in playing games too much - i try and play these old games again but somehow the magic has been lost on me, they just seem pale in comparison to whats around now and somehow don't feel right.
for current games there aren't really any favourites, I blame all these kids who want graphical perfection in games at the expense of gameplay. give me any game with an enjoyable gripping storyline and i'll happily play it and not care what the graphics look like. gothic being an example, i've been playing it this past few weeks and its still fun even with pixels bigger than your own head. hang on, my current favourite is the gothic series, that much complained at german rpg. (not including forsaken gods)
my next favourite might be Risen or Arcania but only if they get the gameplay and storylines right.
which gothic? forsaken gods - its still ver evry very buggy AFAIK. (so buggy it affects my typing)
gothic 3 - you need the community patch 1.72, available from http://www.g3cpt.eu/ fixes pretty much everything that needed fixing and adds a lot more stuff to do.
risen and arkania are out nearer christmas/early next year.
Sorry* for being all young and hip, but if I absolutely had to choose one game, I'd probably have to go for GTA IV, so much to do, so much fun, so many ridiculously funny moments had on the multiplayer.
*Not really
Diablo 2,
I got into the diablo scene late on, never a fan of rpg games, I still have a soft spot for Resident evil (as my fave game) on the ps1 but, Diablo 2 caught my eye when a few friends were having a lan at a friend's house, I was going for a spot of Ghost Recon when some of them were playing with advanced characters and I was hooked,
Every waking moment, building the perfect Barbarian, strength and speed, two handed attacks, forget the defense, cleaving skulls is the order of the day,
Now, I only go back to it when i can grab an odd hour here or there, played all kinds of mods and used all kinds of weapons,
Diablo 3, BRING IT ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must have posted Buble Bobble in various earlier threads as my favourite ever 'Classic' game 10 times............
Had it on the Speccy - C64 - Amiga - PSONE(with rainbow islands) - GBA (Played that loads and loads) and I even got that thing for the Gamecube that allowed you to play GBA games to play it.
And now i'm going to have to d/l it on wiiware lol. Now altogether now.
Do do do - do do do da do do do da do do da da da............... runs off to beat P2 to the shoe
gah tough one.
If you had asked me a few months ago my heart would of said Dungeon Master on the Atari ST is no1 for me as it really got me into RPGs.
But.... never thought i would say this - but a "new" game is currently making me reappraise this. There has been some good games over the last few years but imo Demon's Souls has such a grip on my time right now and will not let go - no game has challenged my RPG favourites like this has -i will go as far as saying that it is my favourite game "this/recent gen over the last few years" but only time will tell if it replaces DM in my affections as no1 on a long term basis. Only time will tell
For me it would have to be Unreal, the original one, released in 1998 I think. This game was so epic, and such a step forward at the time. Incredible visuals, music, with a great single player campaign still to this day being the longest single player campaign that I've ever played. Also to back all that up there was a great multiplayer which was polished up and released as Unreal Tournament the year after. Loads of great memories from that game.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
Easy one for me
