Difference being though that games like Forza don't come out and say the're sims where as the whole build up to shift has being pushing the idea of it being more of a sim.
Even though they go on to talk about tuning and drifting
Here's an interview with the lead track designer.

Really pushing the realism.....
Don't think there's any danger of it being a bad game, but the more they push the sim thing the more they might push away the people that actually might buy the game.
Being need for speed though it'll sell well, although now it looks like it's pushing towards competing with GT5 and Forza. Which it just won't match.
Really? I've never seen the info released from turn 10 saying it's a sim?
There's been a few times reports and previews from the gaming press refer to it as a racing sim, but they just do that with all racing games for some reason. Probably reporting on something that's not what they'd normally play.
i have seen it somewhere during E3. They i believe are trying to make a racing sim game that with all aids off, it will provide you with one of the most realistic racing games out their
new video of spa http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_need...-12761_en.html. cant wait for this. sounds like it will be great!
i thaught it would only get a month and a half worth of use if i did get it - but a forza3 demo is rumoured for around TGS. and even with one track id rather hotlap that bitch to death than play shift to he bonest.. so if TGS is 24th, and this comes out on the 18th, then id play it for 2 weeks? no ta

although cars bounce, flip and roll convincingly, they're often left with little more than a scratch and a cracked windscreen, and it takes several serious impacts to wrestle any of the bodywork off
taking a pedestrian road car and gradually transforming it into a stripped down racer is the single-player's greatest pleasure
drift competitions feel like they have strayed in from a separate game, and they're a little broken

In their words...
And in the words of someone you might know:Speaking of physics engines, will this game's physics be more in line with GRID, Forza/GT, or GTR2?
Ian Bell, SMS: You can't really compare SHIFT's physics to any of those games. The physics are tuned for realistic behavior on top of the most advanced simulation engine in this generation.

With SHIFT we're pushing the limits of physics processing on consoles, delivering a racing experience that is alive, gripping, visceral, and believable.

i suppose if your just doing it casual nothing, but you really dont want to be switching backwards and forwards between two different racing games with different physics when you are trying to be serious. and i am at least trying to be serious - it feels wrong enough messing around with rfactor at the moment i dont want to be playing some other game up until f3 comes out
all they could do was make it like GTR, they dont have the number of cars to be the pc's' version of forza, the 360 doesnt need another forza and the pc has enough gtr/rfactor's
