    Yup, the S3.

Yea i sometimes tend to break and turn at the same time. i will try and break first and then turn at all times.
Just for now - once you get that sorted you can gradually blend the two.

Which is more easier to handle, FWD or RWD ? btw sorry i went offline all of a sudden, my router froze and afterwords kept freezing every minute!
No worries. It depends on the car - the BMW 135 is so well balanced that it's easier than some FWD cars. I think the difference is that while FWD can be just as hard to keep balanced and braking/turn in is actually harder, when you get it wrong the consequences are easier to deal with - usually you just outbrake yourself and drift wide. Getting on the power too early doesn't do much other than cause you to drift wide as well, though lift off oversteer can be a problem on some cars. With RWD there's more control coming into a corner, but if you get it wrong under throttle then the car wants to go into a spin, so you have to be quicker at correcting, and if you do spin you lose a lot more time than just drifting wide.

The other thing is that many of the RWD cars in the game are not as well balanced as the BMW - they tend towards oversteer in most situations, and when you add more power the problems just become even worse.

Great news. first proper mod out now and apparently works online too!

In fact we actually forgot we had installed the mod and we ran 15 laps round Spa, and we had some great battles and at one point when challenging for 1st posistion i outbroke myself and binned the car into the wall and lost a tyre

So we proceeded to mess around with the game to check how well the damage system has been done. Managed to blow engine a few times last night and twist the suspension etc. So hats off to the guy it does what it says on the tin.

The one thing we did find is overall the physics seem alot better and i would say they are closer to EVO then GTR2 as personally we felt there is too much grip. Others may differ as having the extra grip no doubt makes for closer racing but it does seem easier if it makes sense.

Note the R8 screenshot that the AI cars also loose tyres.

The physics mod does really come into it's own mind with the faster cars like the Masser MC12 and ZondaR and my personal favourite car for physics atm the Lexus Concept car.

Must add that some cars really still can take some abuse before blowing the engine and such.

Below are some pics to show the mod in action, resized for the forum.

Sorry CAS but IMO both GT & Forza are not a patch on this game. And i like yourself have been sim racing for years, going as far back as GPL and i have to say mate, stick with SHIFT and inpaticular give this mod a run and give the game a chance to grow on you. It's been found already that the SHIFT physics engine is 99% indentical to GTR2's, it's just been dumbed down somewhat to cater for all the NFS kiddies that play with all the assists ON etc etc.

You look how far this game has come in a matter of weeks due to the community and we are only months away from this being a full blown sim. And with the sounds and the near photo realistic graphics it could be a monster of a sim.

I really feel and i stick by what i said in my review, that you need to play this with an open mind to really be rewarded. I practise pretty much everynight for our Evo club races and then sometimes play SHIFT afterwards and never find myself thinking this is " arcade". I play the game and drive the same way as i do with all other sims and i get just as much back from SHIFT as i do the others.

One point to add if you didn't already know. The oversteer fix is not universal, so you need to set it for each car. And honestly i really can't put across how important it is with this game when it comes to setting the car up. SHIFT's car setup is everybit as good as EVO's and GTR2's and tbh i get more feedback and can feel the changes to setup more with SHIFT than both the above, the SHIFT cars really do react different and respond to individual settings as in making the springs etc stiffer.

The 2 reward cars inpaticular that i have put screenshots of the Porsche & R8 have fantastic physics that easily rival GTR2 & EVO and another i really like is the Lexus concept car.

Great, so we've enjoyed a week without cheats and now people will be playing online with easier handling cars etc?

Re: Need for Speed Shift: sim racer?

There must be an easy way to stop the cheats from playing online ? Doing a file check before joing s erver for instance ? If the files you have don't match with what you should have then don't allow them to connect.

That said this is EA we are talking about, since when have they cared about people cheating ?

Re: Need for Speed Shift: sim racer?

Picked up a G25 and NFS:S yesterday for the PS3. Had a right game getting NFS to see the wheel properly, must have taken nearly an hour to sort that. Then another 30 mins tweaking the steering so that it feels about right. Pretty annoyed that you can't remap the buttons - EA for some reason thought N20 and the handbrake shouldn't be on the wheel itself and should be assigned to buttons on the gear shifter.

    Seriously, WTF?!

That said, once I finally got the thing working it wasn't too bad. Like I say, I've probably only got 30 mins of driving time on it yet, but it's still proving a decent challenge in Pro mode so I'll stick with it.

Re: Need for Speed Shift: sim racer?

I was considering buying this game on the pc next week with a logi steering wheel, but the only thing is is that i love the Drifting aspect of racing games and i hear that on NFS:S it kinda fails, would any1 recommend me buying it or going for a different NFS?
