    awesome game-related musics

Following on from my last thread:

Which game-related music would you listen to by choice?

"game related" here means IN a game of any kind, such as original soundtracks, or BASED ON a game, such as fan remixes, live orchestrals, and so on

    A couple of items:
    Katamari
    Jet Set Radio
    rez
    Monkey Island 3

    Re: awesome game-related musics

From recent games I think the Braid soundtrack stands out the most.
Other than that its mostly classic 8bit for me, ones that come to mind at the moment are:
    Double Dragon
    Contra
    Megaman
    Street Fighter
    Turrican
    Zelda

I really liked the music from Stronghold.. you could download them (legally, I believe) and there were some really good tunes in there.

    Re: awesome game-related musics

    Gothic 3.

That's the only decent soundtrack in any game as far as I can recall, and I've played a lot!

The Witcher is close, and it's good enough to stick on as background music during D&D sessions, ditto some of the soundtracks for the Myst games.

For the more electro-pop then the Another World end-sequence/credit music was okay, and the Bioware CEO's 'Soldier Trance' from the Baldur's Gate credits was also quite fun.

Heroquest had an interesting track that sounded to me like a certain Simon and Garfunkel song..

Finally the credit song 'Still alive' from Portal deserves a mention for it's hilarity.

    Re: awesome game-related musics

I used to listen to the Ninja Warriors and Darius game music, my friend went to japan and came back with a tape of arcarde music.
I used to love those big 3 screen arcade games.

    Re: awesome game-related musics

I'll be honest, I generally listen to the game music for the first few levels and then decide if they're getting muted or whether it's good enough to listen to.

Mirror's Edge - both the theme and the ingame music - fits in with the game extremely well and is something I don't mind listening to outside of the game.

Portal also has a song with the same name that deserves a special mention.

What are the chances of both the songs I mention having the name 'Still Alive'?
