    Games you miss?

Anyone got any games that they stopped playing, or closed down that they look back on with very fond memories?

I pre-ordered auto assault(MMORPG/FPS) a good month before it was released. As i pre-ordered it i got a 3 day head start on the game and for those 3 days i hammered it a good'un. I built up a good reputation among the small European community and got into a solid squad/guild/clan from the early days and watched it grow around me. There always used to be good banter on the chat channels, and as the community was quite small (its ultimate demise) it wasn't hard to bump into familiar faces.

The game never really took off properly and it was canned several months after release, much to my disappointment. I still cant help but look back with fond memories at the first gaming community i genuinely felt deeply submersed in.

    Re: Games you miss?

I used to play an online game named Nowhere Else and Beyond. I was one of the first players to have their player-created content released. The community was great. Then real life took over, and a girlfriend down the line, the bugs which I never got round to solving ended up with my content being taken off etc. etc. etc.

I miss the months where I had both the reputation and the titles that denoted someone who had released content and who checked the new Player content before release. I felt like I was being useful to a game that I loved. I still go back occasionally and kick around their chat... I have a reputation for jumping into chat about once every three months and spamming it up for a bit before I lose interest and disappear.

Would link but I think that it's not allowed

    Re: Games you miss?

I think everyone has games they look back at with nostalgia, for me many of the CRPG's such as Balduars Gate and Planescape: Torment are the ones I most fondly remember, but also things like Frontier Elite 2 (I remember taking turns to play this at my mate and selling the warp drive to make an upgrade but miscalculating the value and leaving us to make garbage runs to the outer system)

games I miss are international superstar soccer, sensible world of soccer(played this to death at uni), total anniliation(just good fun) and frontier elite 2(I know people may prefer the original elite, but I never played it and I loved frontier).
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Tribes and Tribes 2. I would really love for the old Dynamix team to get backing and release a true Tribes revival. No FPS has come close since Tribes. From what I know the old tribes devs own all the rights to the engine etc.

    Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory

Had a massive reputation, and at one time I was easily within the top 10 in the UK. But was too young to go to any LANs or Tournys.

Good times, but 7-12 hours a day gaming does ruin your life.

For me it would have to be quite a few Dreamcast games. When I have a bit of spare money I might look into getting another one Hell I want to get one just so I can play through Shenmue 1 + 2 again!

    Re: Games you miss?

I've mentioned it here before but freespace 1+2. Loved that game - amazing storyline. Also really enjoyed Tie fighter - great storyline as well.

Also really enjoyed the close combat ww2 strategy games microsoft started and SSI then took over. Now owned by a different group and they released an america marines vs the terriosts fps under the name - such a waste of a good title.

The original Homeworld. I consider that to have the best story from the single player RTS campaigns I've played. Loved the gameplay too

    Re: Games you miss?

Timesplitters 3! My first real online gaming experience. Every friday night I'd go to a friends house and we'd play this for hours, then we'd go home and play together until it was morning. Really amazing fun game.

Another game I kinda miss is Guild Wars. Got really into it and had a very good guild. We done loads of pvp content, but after a while real life took over and when I went back, the guild had disbanded. Couldn't get back into it, and the thought of starting in a new guild and working my way up wasn't worth the hassle.

    Re: Games you miss?

goldeneye springs to mind. Best ever use of a bond license ever, and brought a lot of old school bond into it(jaws, odd job and sets from various films like the launch room from moonraker).
It was the first multiplayer game I played, frequent visits to a friends house when at college(he happened to live near college so many free lessons spent on goldeneye).

I also miss grim fandango, one of the funniest games I've ever played(along with secret of monkey island which I might get from steam).

    Re: Games you miss?

I have probably played over 1,200 hours on Call Of Duty 2. I was in a few clans with mates and then the one after with just randomers i knew from online. The disk doesn't even work anymore

It's still rather popular, i used to play it on a pc with an overclocked GeForce 6200 that was AGP.
I remember upgrading pc, and then playing it with a 8800GTS 640mb and it was amazing compared to what it looked like before, shame i stopped playing it a couple of months after i upgraded, but it lost a lot of popularity as people started playing Cod3 on the consoles and then Cod4 came out.

    Freelancer

Was part of a pretty good clan once, made some good friends in the process. Still talk to one or two of them on msn. We struck the fear of god into other players when we showed up at one time but then we all started playing different things, some people went off to uni or got new jobs. Now the direct play components required to play freelancer online are no longer present in vista and windows 7 and the global server has been taken offline.
