Never needed a pen and paper. Firstly match empty brackets to reduce the options, then pick words which will give you the most information - often there's several similar words so pick one and you'll quickly discover which letters are involved. You shouldn't need to write anything down.

Lockpicking - just move the bobbypin a bit every time it shakes to find the 'sweet spot' to open the lock, is that right?
It moves more the closer you are to the correct position. If it stops moving then stop forcing or you'll break the lock.

Small arms - im pointing this as it seems to contain all the low-tech weapons but NON of the catagories say sniper rifle, does it fall into small arms?
Sniper is small arms, yes.

are their places worth going straight to at the start?
like oblivion, there were places you could go straight to after the into area to give yourself a kickstart in terms of money and weapons. last night i went to Anchorage and unlocked the 'Outcasts' vault which had ALOT of stuff inside! (including power armors i wont wear as their was a sneaking suit and static blade!)
Anchorage is DLC so would be expected to have more powerful stuff as most people will play it already quite far into a game. However the game is probably more fun if you get the right equipment for the level you are rather than jumping ahead. You don't need a kickstart really, as scavenging for equipment/money is part of the fun. The crashed UFO has a nice weapon too.

what are the best Spec's/ Skills you have found most useful and fun to play?
Science is useful and fun - helps you get a lot of background lore, ditto speech. Perks wise black widow/lady killer is fun, robotics is quite handy, contract killer adds more questy stuff etc. - basically the options which give more dialogue choices etc. Strong back is the most useful perk I found, but I was a bit of a pack rat.

I had this problem after patching with the 1.7 uk Patch ( this was on the old fallout3 with no DLC`s) I patched it back to the 1.6 uk patch which fixed the problem. But this may give you issues with DLC`s don`t know yet on that one until i get the GOTY (when it drops below a £10.00).

Re: Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition

Hi Folks,

Looking to pick this up soon, I have only played Fallout Tactics but I enjoyed that a lot, heres hoping this will be as good as some reviews say it is!

Must admit the issues you are having hsbc have pushed me more towards the Steam route even though I would like to get it retail (price seems a little better as Steam seems to hold their prices for a while).

Have you had any luck solving the issue? I have heard that Windows Live has caused quite a few issues for some people, perhaps its worth checking on that front as you suggest.

I haven't been able to play any recent GFWL games as my GPU isn't up to it but I'm hoping they sort their act out before too long as it seems to impact on peoples enjoyment of the online parts of these games.

Let us know how you get on,

Cheers,
Harv

Re: Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition

I ordered it from Play.com ages ago but it got lost first time due to postal strikes, and they have sent it again twice and I still have not received it(lost/stolen in post again), I got Play to cancel the order and decided to look elsewhere, good job to as Amazon were selling it for £14 new.
It will now be an X-mas gift to my self.

Re: Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition

i got mine from Amazon - bargain.
quite a ways into it though now and im trying to avoid the main story like the plague so i can get clear as much as possible - just done Tenpenny Towers. on my next char im gonna blow up megaton just to live their its 1000 times better laid out!

although - maybe my fault for stumbling on an expansion early on but ive not once changed gear since i ventured their. still using the Chinese Stealth Suit and Sniper Rifle!

Story Spoiler
just took 'Dad' and the scientists back to the purifier where the sh!t hits the fan with the enclave and 'Dad' sacrifices himself so we could get away.
anyone else think that was a bit of a waste/anti-climax, after all the searching for him.

i've not played much after that as it was late but still . . .

Re: Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition

Prime, it could have been worse.. try the ending before you install Broken Steel.. worst ending in a game ever.

Re: Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition

im not finished yet - i think all the expansions come up automatically anyway but its been a decent game so far - i just hope its not got a cataclysmic fail of an ending like Batman!

so there is another ending after broken steel? i have been through the other expansions except that one as its not come up on the quest list yet.

Re: Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition

Well, simply installing Broken Steel changes the ending of the original game at the precise point that you're complaining about - the story originally took an unbelievably forced route and ended there.

In the original game, yep, but even worse than you described it. Broken steel keeps the game open so you can carry on doing things afterwards.

yes, this is what I would find hard if I had that version. Where does one DLC stop and the other start?

I think you might be getting mixed up, the part where
you go back to the purifier with your dad and get ambushed
isn't the ending. You'll know the ending when you see the credits roll, even with Broken Steel added on, the difference is that with BS you'll get to carry on afterwards.
