    3d gaming - any takers?

    Hi guys,
I am building a new gaming rig (i7) and will be buying a new monitor also. i am torn between a nice 24inch with a good resolution [1900 x whatever] or [scan code LN27266] - 22" Samsung SM2233RZ Black, 3D 120Hz, 3ms, 1680x1050, DC 20000:1 (1000:1 Typical) and [LN27263] - NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision Glasses And IR Emitter
Has anybody used these? will the lower res of the 120hz monitor be noticible, or would the larger resolution be too much anyway?
any opinions on 3d gaming guys? worth the investment this early? or is it a tech fad [again]
    thanx for your time
    PZ

The thing that worries me about 3d gaming is 3d films feel like my eyes have been poked out by how skewers by the end of it, I want to be able to game of longer than an hour a day!

Re: 3d gaming - any takers?

The Samsung you mention is meant to be very good for gaming anyway - with an excellent response rate. So it's not a bad thought, even if you don't go for the 3D vision. The slightly smaller size is probably slightly better for FPS games too.

OTOH, you won't be able to get full HD on it if you are watching movies and if you play games which benefit from lots of screen real-estate, then a 24" may be better for you.

Re: 3d gaming - any takers?

    mmm thanx guys,
still cant decide on how to go with this and have to order soonish to get it before xmass.
I am looking at the[scan LN30208] 24" Iiyama PLB2409HDS-W LCD Wide Full HD 1920x1080 2ms 20000:1DCR VGA DVI HDMI as an alternative to the 22inch 3d monitor.
i will principally be playing flight sims (http://riseofflight.com/en) and the odd fps. just wondering which would be more beneficial for sims, 3d? or 24inch 1920x1080
    cheers

Re: 3d gaming - any takers?

Don't forget that 3d will only really be effective if you have a graphics card that can spit out 120fps in every game you play (to match the 120Hz refresh rate of your 3d monitor). Playing in 3d, your fps is effectively halved by the need to render synched left and right eye images. The question is then whether the 120Hz monitor is worth it to you on its own...

Re: 3d gaming - any takers?

thanx Jim good point. As this is a total build (my first in 5 years) and i need everything bar amp and surround sound, it may be the more frugal option to go for a 24inch monitor and invest in a better gpu?
I was budgeting upto £200 max for gpu, the 3d glasses add another 100quid or so to the build that may be better invested in high end mobo so i can OC in the future.

does this game do the multi-monitor thing? because i know its much preferred in racing games and i guess it would be similar for a flight sim

Re: 3d gaming - any takers?

I'm interested to see how it goes. The acer monitor is released at the end of the month 24" 120hz, expensive but could be really cool.

Never once had a 3D effect work given ive got very fussy eyes, both long and short sighted, can't even do those damm magic eye puzzles lol. Needless to say i'd have to see it working before i'd shell out cash.

Re: 3d gaming - any takers?

I've placed an order for a couple of the pairs of glasses, now just waiting for someone in Europe to start selling the Acer GD245HQ 24" 120Hz 1920x1080 screens so I can buy a couple.

Definitely a good reason to go back and play around with Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead, STALKER and look foward to Assassins Creed 2
