    Tell me about rfactor

I've watched a few vids on rfactor on youtube and its never interested me in the past but looking at some of the mods is tempting. like these:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SROfG...eature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8hVKo4tV_c

i really like the safari rally one.

So just want to know is the game and the mods free? and how much hassle is setting everything up? what do you guys think of the game and in comparison to gtr evolution?

Firstly you need to join http://www.rfactorcentral.com/ (signing up is free )

All the mods are free, but the game you need to pay for. Quite old now though so should be dirt cheap.

The game as a stand alone is very limited, but it's built completly with modding in mind so what you now have is hundreds of mods giving you all sorts of new cars and tracks, and whatever motorsport you like there'll be mods for.

In the link to the left of the site you'll see tabs for cars/tracks/series etc. If rallying is your thing then there's plenty of choice of vehicles/tracks and rallycross series. Finding that specific Africa rally might take a bit of looking around though.

It's has alot more playability that GTR evo with the shear volume of mods but isn't quite so user friendly. But it's certainly become one of the best racing games out there.

^ live for speed? but i think thats annual actually, i'm not really a hardcore gamer so im not sure if i would want to pay monthly for a game that i might not play reguarly.

anyway cheers for the info reading around looks like rfactor 2 is due for release next year so might give rfcator 1 a miss for now, the mods look cool but i think those vids just make em look more appealing with the special affects added to them lol

GTR Evolution would be worth looking into maybe - but get the latest version called 'Race On'.

Yep, iRacing, though monthly works out relatively expensive (£8 per month with the current exchange rate), buying yearly or 2 yearly equates to just £5 per month.

It's a different class to rFactor, but then it's more structured too. There are plenty of pro racers (including recent F1 drivers and current NASCAR and IRL drivers) driving it too.

    Re: Tell me about rfactor

already have gtr evolution and a few other racing games, i've played nfs shift demo again and i must say i am starting to like this........ quite liked dirt 2 too, i would love a game where i can drive rally cars from the 80's or 90's or the touring cars from those eras too, hence the interest in rfactor after seeing those mod vids

    Re: Tell me about rfactor

Take a look at the mods from rfactor central and make sure you not really missing out

There's a le mans series mod that's truely excellent and most of the F1 mods are great fun, there's some interesting comparison vids on youtube aswell.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTVHe...om=PL&index=50

But hopefully Rfactor 2 win't take too long next year, there's no real indications as to when it's coming out though, but one things for sure the mods will keep that going for years aswell.
