Top find!they have been talking about the new tech engine before in a couple of the 3D mags for almost 6 months now, it's mainly causing a stir because it's as close to realtime rendering as you can get. Basically the character models are only about the 10,000 ploy mark which is low, very low by todays standards.
With the new maping/lighting techs you end up with a model that looks like and is sampled from a x Million poly model. It's a bit like getting a character for Unreal Tournament in terms of specs and system load, but a Far Cry/Half-Life 2 character for looks.
I suppose the bad news is the lenght of time it takes to make a character with millions of poly's over one that is only 10,000, it will be interesting to see what short cuts they can make for that.
I wonder how Valve and ID are taking this, becuase the whole point of HL2 is that it's a Engine for hire, like Q2/Q3 and Unreal. But with that just around the corner......
Whats more interesting is the NV40, a seperate lighting pipeline and a lot of new pixel shaders, looks like we all should have waited before upgrading our cards.![]()
saw the other day, looks pretty damn impressive! I just hope I don't need to upgrade AGAIN to play it.
Well - Half Life 2 has had its day for being the best GFX
That looked awsome, I'll listen to it with sound when I get home.

well if u look at hexus's review of the 6800 or one of the other reviews linked to on the main site you will see alot of this generation games are soaring into the 200 and 300 fps range.
Cost will prob be the usual, £350 start point.
