Has anybody got and played this game? If so, what's it like? Your opinions?

I'm not really into RPG games but everyone I know who is, loves this game.
It is quite possibly the best RPG ever made! You wont regret playing it!

Oh, and are there any serious technical issues? I hate having to go through dozens of drivers and settings just to get one game to work. Do I really need to upgrade from Catalyst 3.10 with my Sapphire Radeon 9600?

I played it on a 9600XT without any problems with an older catalyst driver. You can choose what missions you want to do, but there is some places where it is linear. But you wont mind, because the story is amazing. The way it unfolds is superb and it can be played through two ways, light side and dark side. Both are as good as each other, i palyed it through twice each way just to see the different ending. Also some very good sub games in there too.

If i remember correctly the 3.10 Catalyst drivers are what was needed to get KOTOR to be playable with shadows enabled.
As spazman has said it is a very linear game with very little deviation from the main plot but the story more than makes up for it, definetly one of the best RPG's ever made
It is in the same vein as Balders gate 1 & 2 and it is very similiar (i.e. choose to be good or evil) to Planescape torment (Which is still my favourite RPG)
It's a remarkably easy game to play and I am enjoying the story so far but I prefer the freedom and 'weirdness' that was Morrowind. It's hard not to like KOTOR but I am definately being led by the hand and seduced by the high production values and in particularly the quality voice acting. Great story maybe but not a great game IMO. Popular because it's Star Wars and because it's easy going. I think my mum could happily play this game and surely that's a bad thing.
I've had it sitting here for ages, played the first bit where you escape from the ship and arrive on the planet but got no further. Really need to get into it as it seems to play really well.
