"Games that had me stumped for days!!!"

I can remember trying to complete Tomb Raider on the GreyStation many moons ago & played the whole game from start to finish without cheating.

I spent hours trying to kill the end of game Dragon with no success, until I accidentally noticed what appeared to be something coloured in its tail. Upon further inpsection & games later it turned out to be a dagger & that was the key to defeating it!!

Hooray!! There are many other tales (excuse the pun) in the locker - what are yours?

there was a game on the BBC Micro where you had to make your way through different screen collecting keys to open a set of doors to release your girlfrind I could never get the last key, I tried and tried but could never get to the last a screen without falling to my death. I found out many years later the game was bugged and impossible.

Your sig is from Manic Miner right? Well, I must have spent enough time trying to complete that and Jet Set Willy. Both basically impossible without cheating in my mind...

I agree, Jet Set Willy was almost impossible without cheats. In terms of Manic Miner, I played the game so much I finally completed it losing only one life and that was on the "Solar Power Generator".

When Manic was released originally by Bug Byte, I recall them offering a prize to anyone who finished the game - there was a message at the end (they said) and you were to call them with the answer.

It took weeks to get to the end - after prolonged periods of strained eyes - and I was greeted with a small picture of a dagger and a fish (i think) and that was it!!!

I managed to call Bug Byte and was told "We couldn't comment!" - what a let down. Maybe because I was only a young lad, I'll never know.

Re: "Games that had me stumped for days!!!"

I have never finished Rockstar Ate my Hamster to this day, can never seem to get it just right!

I always got lost on Sin about halfway through, couldnt find a way out of the abandoned tenement building and ended going round in circles. Mind you that was a good few years ago.

Jet Set Willy I never finished, that game was so hard. So were other games like Henrys House and Herbets Dummy Run.

Theres so many of the old school retro games that I never finished, others I had to put cheats in to actually finish them.

Then there was games like Airwolf (first one) where it never ended, just kept going on and on!

Happy to boast that i beat Manic Miner, took me about 2 years and it just goes back to level 1 #
Jet Set Willy was probably the biggest game of its time, it was huge in scope, never heard of anyone finishing it.
Beat Ninja Gaiden 1, Black and 2, with all the scarabs in 1 and Black, and using only the one weapon in 2, but not every weapon cos taht would take years

Atic Atac was my bane, never did find the last piece of the key

Games are getting easier. I tried to think of a modern title I was well and truly stumped and I can't.

They don't make them like they used too.

For nostalgia; Nomad on the spectrum, that was a hard game.

Sorry to say not played either. I tend to shy away from fantasy. Think I played to many in my youth.

Will keep an eye for them second hand next time I'm in gamestation though just for the challenge.
