is there any good free mmorpg games ?

got another new laptop coming (gaming one this time) and i would like to give some games a whirl on it and not sure i want to subscribe to wow because i have a bad habit of wanting to play a game then play it for an hour or two an dont bother playing again

so any free ones to play around with might get me back into it

now just of to the hardware section to get a vote on a new gaming mouse ....

I seen a review for Allods Online on Eurogamer a few days back and decided to give it a shot. Must admit pretty good game, played it for a few hours now and it is very enjoyable.

Guild Wars is really good but it is hard to get into groups on it, there isnt that many players on the PvE side of things unless Europe wins the Hall of Heroes and you can head into 2 PvE maps with decent loot and tough enemies (Cant remember what they are called for the life of me! ). PvP side of things however is booming

I'm currently on Dungeons & dragons (orien server if anyone is on there) and for a free MMORPG it is very good even if you only dabble once or twice a week like I do when everyones asleep and I'm still awake.

Silkroad online wasn't too bad when I played it.
It's point and click mostly though, and a bit of a grind if thats what your after.

Re: is there any good free mmorpg games ?

Remember that the controls differ for the free games.

Not all games use the fps style control.
I would expect D&D to have the most polish of all the free games.

But there must be a reason the Koreans love their free mmo with purchasable weapons market models.

    Underworld and Fissure of Woe?

There are more with Dungeons (some) from EoTN, Domain of Anguish, the deep and Urgoz warrens.

PvP is okay but everyone is complaining now there is no team arenas and they removed hero battles (which I never played).

I've been playing perfect world since last summer. it looks good and is free to play. but like most other free to play games you have to 'pay to win' lol. The server i'm on has been wrecked by the online shop in the past few months, game economy is pretty dire. not sure about the newer servers though. there's also a range of pvp and pve servers so you can choose which to go for.

think there are some european servers, but i'm playing on a american server (didnt know where i was till i found out most of the ppl were from america lol)

it's a good, suffers from grinding issues when you get higher up in levels but thats the same with most mmorpgs i think.

Re: is there any good free mmorpg games ?

I would recommend Silkroad Online, it beats WoW and age of conan hands down.

Apart from two major flaws, 1. the servers are full of botters and gold bots (compansy that you pay for gold, if you want) and since there is a cap of 3.5k players on every server (think 20 servers now) they are always full there are alot of legit players playing but the botters just mean its full most times, logging in is damn well hard.

    2. Its solid to level, the game is probably the hardest MMORPG to level in that ive ever encountered. It took me over a year to get to lvl 70+, the skills are done by a nice skill point system where you earn it threw kills not levels but this just means EXTRA bloody grinding for it and the higher you get the more you need.

They brought at EXP tickets and Premium tickets, these increase the exp to like double and enable a skill point quest (gets you lot more sp) along with the premium doing this and guaranteeing you a login spot no matter what. This is why i dont class it as a "free mmorpg", it requires alot of time and to get there within a lifetime it require a exp ticket along with needing that premium to get in to play!.

If you want a P2P game and have the time for it, can put aside 10 or £15 aside for it then it really is the best game, it has the best PVP system.

A different MMORPG to try if you asked a year or so ago would be Rising Force Online, unfortunately Codemasters couldnt get the korean developers to renew the license with them and so they had to shut their servers down. However there are private servers out their for it, with enhanced exp rates and updates etc, it means you can just pickup and play get to level cap pretty quick and then play for the PVP aspect.

As I'm quite cheap, I've tried most of the free mmorpg games. I personally would go for D&D Online or Runes of Magic.

Re: is there any good free mmorpg games ?

I started with Runes of Magic last night after seeing it on this thread. Must admit for a complete free game its pretty impressive. I wasnt overly keen on D&D online
