[PC] CoD MW2 New Player Guide

Last weekend Steam had a free MP weekend for MW2 and I downloaded and played it for a few hours. I must say, apart from the fact that I got my backside handed to me a fair few times, I did actually enjoy it. Also, after playing a bit of the single player campaign on my mates XBox, I would like to give it a go and buy it.

However, the thing I noticed on MP was how many different guns, attachments and other things there are, and I didn't have a clue what to use and what is best/easiest.

So, does anyone know of any good guides on the net I could glance over to get an idea of some pretty good setups, play styles, which maps are easier to learn, which game types are better for newer players etc... just to help get past the "I just got killed after 5 seconds of spawning again" phase?

Either that, or if you have some good hints and tips for me (and hopefully others) it would be really appreciated.

    Thanks!

Actually, after reading http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-gaming...mpany-2-a.html I'm beginning to wonder if BC2 might be a better choice?

You may have to loo at upgrading some parts of your system if you go the battlefield route.

Really? How graphically intensive is it? I could play MW2 at almost full settings at 1400x900 no problems, same with most other "recent" games I own like ME2.

Re: [PC] CoD MW2 New Player Guide

ME2 uses the Unreal engine which scales really well - likewise MW2 isn't the most demanding of games.

You could get it (battlefield) and see how it plays but some on here have mentioned it virtually unplayable on a Core 2 Duo! Although my mate plays it fine apparently with a 4770 and 2x1GB of RAM @ 1280*720.

Re: [PC] CoD MW2 New Player Guide

Play styles and the "best" weapons will vary for each person. No guide can define what is best for everyone, they can define which gun does the most damage, has the best accuracy, but at the end of the day, its the gun that makes the difference.

Buy the game, play it and unlock weapons, unlock the weapon, give it a chance, if you like it, keep playing with it, if you dont like it, change to a new weapon.

My personally, while also playing it for the free weekend found that I prefered the SMG you use in the recon class (before you unlock your own classes) and didnt really get on with the assault rifles at all.

I played for the weekend and got to rank 20 or so using that gun in my own class and had some fun. Will I be buying the game? Nope. I found it to easy with the add on's such as heart beat monitor, commando and all the rest.

Re: [PC] CoD MW2 New Player Guide

Some more tips, some of which may be a bit basic

    1. Keep moving - if you're still you present an easy target

    2. Reload when you're in cover, not in the open

    3. If it looks you you're about to come under fire make yourself a small target - going prone quickly is a good tip

    4. Play team based games and work as a team. Sticking with someone else can help as a n00b - you'll probably save each other a few times

    5. Be stealthy - sneaking around the back of where a group of enemy are advancing should net several kills

    6. Use a weapon which is comfortable to your style. I like the SCAR for reasonable long distance accuracy, high power and speed.

    7. Try not to use the grenade launchers on weapons too much - it's really annoying for everyone else

    8. Learn the maps and figure out where the snipers like to camp, where you are likely to encounter enemies from the start of the match and where you are most vulnerable/exposed.

    9. If you see hackers, just leave the game - it's not worth playing. Typically anyone with max Prestige/Level is likely to have been hacking.

    10. If all else fails, camp over an objective point, but it's not a great way to play the game.

    Marathon + Sprint + knife + running = win

Failing that, grab a noob tube and a launcher and just spam the crap out of the server.

You'll make me quit, but hey, you'll get kills and rank up quickly.

Let me know your tag and I'll make sure I avoid you

BFBC2 works fine on my rig (medium settings all round) - see my system

If you actually play the game, you'll aquire all the information you need - You unlock an attachment, use it - Use all the guns - etc etc etc.

Sound a bit noobish, or lazy.

Perhaps he just wanted to see what the online Hexus community thought first?

Get some advice, a few tips, a bit of help then go and try it out.

So SammEl, everyone should be as 1337 as you claim to be at games and not bother asking a question when they have one?

Seriously, the guy came asking for advice, not an ear full.

If that's an earful, man you haven't lived.

It's advice, very decent advice, some people use ACOG on a UMP, some people use a ACOG on snipers, some people run around with a pistol, some people like a thermal on a AK47.

It's impossible to take someone elses word on every single attachment - You have to try for yourself and see how YOU play with the attachment.

IMO: Most guns can use all attachments and be good, personally, I hate ACOG on any gun, and unless a gun has a decent iron sight, I normally use Red Dot, but on the FAL you need Holographic as the red dot is not accurate on it.

But, that's my opinion, and I know I've seen people run around with FAL without any sight.
