Saints Row 2 PC - How many Tera-Hz CPU power?!?

I bought Saints Row 2 for the PC, and I am glad I got it at a reduced price because it is by far the shoddiest piece of software I have bought in recent memory. I never like to judge a company by one product, but this is so bad that I have to make an exception.

A lot of people complained about GTA IV for the PC. That is demanding but with a moderate PC it is playable at medium graphics settings with a bit of slowdown at times, and with low settings it runs well.

Saints Row 2 on the other hand is unplayable, even at 640x480 with all settings on minimum. GTA IV on lowest settings looks better than SR2 on high, and still runs better.

To be fair to Rockstar, they have released many patches for GTA IV, the most recent one being over a year after the game was released. SR2, has had one patch that didn't fix any of the performance issues and not a peep since.

Does this game work well for anybody? My system is as follows:
    - AMD Athlon X2 running at 3.0GHz
    - 3GB RAM
    - nVidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB
    - Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
    - Windows 7 32-bit
It's not a fast system by any means these days, but it is well in excess of the minimum requirements and only just below the recommended requirements for CPU (and exceeding them for everything else).

I think this is one game that will sit on the shelf until my next PC upgrade. But even then I'm questioning whether I'll actually be able to play it!

It runs fine on my system. It was pretty jerky on my old Core 2 Duo system but with my i5 and ati 4770 I can get 60fps+ on maximum settings at 1440x900. I think there's an issue with Windows 7 where enabling V-Sync makes the game run at a higher speed (not frame rate).

    Thanks, that's good to know!

I was looking at building a system around the Core i5, and probably stick with my current 8800GT for a while.

Re: Saints Row 2 PC - How many Tera-Hz CPU power?!?

Sorry, I got it wrong. I've just started up Saints Row 2 again and it's more like 30+fps. But that's still playable. I did notice a big jump in performance after going from a Core 2 Duo E6300 overclocked to 3.2GHz to a standard speed i5 750.

The game does have a lot of bugs and it's been badly ported to the PC. It was enjoyable enough but seemed a lot like a white, middle class nerd's interpretation of gangsta.

Re: Saints Row 2 PC - How many Tera-Hz CPU power?!?

I tried to play this game after buying it last year.

On my X2 2.9 ATi 4850, 4bg Ram with graphic setting all turned down, it looked like GTA San Andreas but the low fps stayed the same.

I remember trying to do a mission where you chased some people with a motorbike, the low frame rate and stuttering killed my eyes.

I just gave up, watched the Xbox360 'Let Play' on Youtube and uninstalled it.

GTA4 was playable on my system.

Runs fine on my i7 / 5850, but it certainly doesn't seem to be the most optimised port of a game. Still, it's pretty fun if you can get it running properly, if a bit daft.
