    Do you want 3D gaming?

Simple question really. Personally I'm not the kinda guy that wants to come home, strap on some goggles and spend the remainder of my evening waving around motion controllers. But, the idea of a game like Wipeout in 3D does intrigue me so I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

Ive never tried 3d , however i dont like the idea of wearing glasses ontop of my current glasses (its bad enough already!). And i also dont want to be pushed into upgrading my tv/monitor and computer just to play it in 3d, im happy with the current "2D" display however i believe if it comes out as an alternative (i.e game X is released in 2D and 3D) then i wont mind and eventually will upgrade/try it >

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

maybe for some.. and definately not for others.

I'd hate to play Lineage2 or D&DOnline in 3d.. I know it SOUNDS good.. but i think it would loose something, because the menu's and stuff still need to be there and it would drive me mad to not see the full 3d effect....

however... I WOULD love IL-2 and CoD5 is 3d.. now THAT would be ace.

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

Racing and FPS are 2 game types that I think would bode extremely well with 3D, just because of the depth.. Feeling like you're actually racing towards a corner and picking your braking spot carefully.

Whereas football games, the little men that are on the pitch just wouldn't stand out enough to bother with 3D. I've heard that the 3D games on the telly aren't exactly the best as well.

Just can't justify the £400-ish for a 3D monitor and the £400(£800) for a graphics card(s) that can run at 120FPS.

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

Yeah it's not justifiable at the moment with the cost of the hardware. But many games wil benefit from 3d.
Can't really see me playing CM2010 in 3D though really

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

3D really needs a large screen or projector to fulfil it's promise. Surround sound works wonders too.

I think without the proper setup 3D maybe the biggest flop of next year.

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

3d is great if the game is designed for it, unoptimised stuff like crysis looks much better in 2d. Most aaa games are better in 3d but there's always room for a blast on civ 1 or sonic

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

Personally, no. It night be okay in a few cases, and it might suit others more than it would suit me, but as a general rule, for me, no. And I certainly wouldn't pay more for the game, and I wouldn't buy hardware to support it.

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

I'd love to try out Nvida's proper 3D setup. It all looks good but rather expensive gear. I tried the 3D using the paper glasses and it was nauseating.

I think racing and FPS are the ideal genres for 3D.

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

It would have to be very cheap - maybe a premium of £50-100 over non-3D in total, so that includes graphics card and monitor.

And there's no way I'd wear glasses, so it would have to work without them.

It would be brilliant for some games though... in fact the more I think about it, it would be great for most games. I'm still sticking to my cheapskate opinions though.

I had to go with no - for one thing, there's the thought of the cost premium as mentioned above, but for another - wouldn't 3D mean games that'd be unavailable to those with poorer eyesight?

I think it would be years until 3D games could even contemplate going 3D-only.

The PS3 still supports standard definition!

Re: Do you want 3D gaming?

Yes I would like to see more 3D gaming support..i've tried it and it works brilliantly.

No need at all to spend hundreds on it though - a classic pair of stereo3D glasses coupled with a CRT monitor does the job perfectly, all for around £50 total (and thats if you get decent glasses..they can be had for much less).

The effect on FPS's is simply amazing..I have lamented about Unreal Tournament in 3D before but that was my first experience of it, and seeing a rocket coming towards you and then out of the screen is fantastic. It does work in games like WoW better than you think also, the extra depth is nice and while not really affecting gameplay, it adds an extra level of immersion.

I've not tried it for a few years now since ditching my old CRT, but in the future when LCD monitors that can support it are commonplace I would certainly pick it up again.

Just remember with all the current hype that while the techniques have changed slightly, 3D gaming is nothing new and it has been going on since at least the Mid 90's..and the effect you could get then is almost identical to what you get now

Well I have a lazy eye, so can only see out of one eye at a time, so I hope that 2D versions are around for a long time to come.

Also considering the number of people who had headaches watching avatar in 3D, I would imagine that the same problem would happen gaming.
