    Angry Alpha Protocol

    The Espionage RPG is out at last, and fun times there are to be had! BUT; this game has been awfully 'dumbed down for the kids and their damn consoles', and it's really getting on my tits now. Thing like;

    - stumble on a cache of rifles, SMGs etc. BUT CAN'T PICK THEM UP/USE ANY OF THEM even though I've got a pistol with three bullets left
    - buy a few grenades from the weapons supplier, when equip them you find that all the grenades that you bought for the previous mission ALL GET MAGICALLY RETURNED AFTER A SUCCESSFUL MISSION

Yeah, a good game this is, but if only it was developed as a proper PC game!

    /rant mode off.

apparently it's not very playable on the PC and not even a spy game but more a lone commando/one man army role. would you agree with that?

    shame really

I thought it was terrible to be honest. I played it for a couple of hours and was just bored to tears. Shooting is absolutely appalling - you have to aim for about 5 seconds before you are focused enough to hit a target. Stealth is incredibly hit and miss, so many times I felt like I was hidden but suddenly all the enemies rushed on my position. The missions and story are also just incredibly... meh. I'd give it a miss.

I don't see why not being able to pick weapons up has anything to do with consoles ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Is that stat/skill dependant? It's meant to be an RPG isn't it?

    Re: Alpha Protocol

Depends on the gun and your skill with that. I went with pistols and put most points into that, but I still had to aim, then slowly wait for the crosshairs to come together and after about 5 seconds I could shoot accurately. Assault rifles are a lot better, shotguns work by basically charging them up to get accurate. It's all very hit and miss.

Edit: Also, forgot about the timed dialogue sequences. As soon as you start the conversation you see your options to reply, and as soon as the other person finishes speaking (no indication of when they will) whatever is currently highlighted will be your response. It's completely ridiculous. They could be ranting on about weapons and your options could be "Sarcastic, Confused or Professional" then they could just say "Whats your favourite colour?" And you whatever is selected would be your response. Gives you no time to reply and ends up getting you into confusing situations.

    Re: Alpha Protocol

The story/plot could be sooo much better. The idea is that you have been pulled out of you're current job (kidnapped?) because your skill set fits the profile needed for an agent of the Alpha Protocol; an organisation not known to the CIA/Special Forces/etc. (which is where you were employed before).

The thing is, after you wake up in a medical facility with no idea who/where/what's going on (and there are a few 'tutorial' type brushes with the various espionage/combat/stealth mechanisms) you sound like you know of Alpha Protocol and you just want a mission brief...

Bah. I was hoping for at least 'I'm pissed off, you kidnapped me and now I'm gonna bring this organisation down' sort of thing.

    He/she was right.

I played this game and thought it was pants. It was very promising at first. I thought "ZOMG a company that appreciates the original Deus Ex?!?! Could it be?!". But no, it couldn't be. Once you actually got stuck in, it all became so tame. Very outdated too.

Blasphemy! Mass effect 2 is the best game out..... if this tops it then surely this is the best game of all time?

I may try this but the bad reviews arent grabbing my attention well. And no demo is annoying.

    Re: Alpha Protocol

I've seen quite a lot of people on the net who said they are really enjoying it. I can imagine it's a bit of a change from the usual run and gun because it at least has some sneaky bits and switches to flick and stuff. But yeah, I really hoped for more.

    Re: Alpha Protocol

On the PC , i think its potentially the best game i played this year . Thought it was mass effect 2 before that. I really enjoyed having to make real choices that have impact on the game in the long run. The dialogue was satisfying although at times you have no idea whatsoever what he would say. I focused on martial arts pistols sabotage and i had a blast. I had problems with brayko in moscow till i realised you have to shoot him before he shoots up on heroin every time he comes down from the balconies. Having factions to ally with was neat, and everyone was massively treacherous as well.
