think i'll hold off buying this on release as no doubt crippling bugs & retarded AI will make it nearly impossible to play, for a short period anyway. does look like a good progression on arma2 though

    Re: Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead

I never really got into ARMA 2 tbh - not as much as I would've happened.

I think they could really do with looking at the playability and AI before they start adding lots of new features - if they're not careful they'll be selling solely to the ARMA crowd, and there's a much bigger customer-base out there who would be interested.

The AI is one of the most complex AI's in a game this huge. Its not scripted pap like 9/10 games are. This AI system is more dynamic and advance. Anyway's its a day one purchase for me.

I loved the nights when i played with fellow hexus members.

Yeah had some great nights on the last one with hexus lads. lot of fun. A properly filled server with multiple squads etc etc was awesome too.

This looks great, they seem to have fixed/added most of the things I wanted. So will be definitely be keeping an eye on it.

i agree that the AI is much more advanced than many other current offerings but when playing through SP I dreaded having to command a squad (let alone an entire 'army'.) Perhaps my memory is failing me but I don't remember OFP and its iterations having the sort of AI trouble ARMA has had. I guess the game has got more advanced.

a new sound engine intrigues me, I know a fair few OFP fans became disillusioned with ARMA 2 because they couldn't tell which direction they were being fired from

I didn't struggle too much with that, I think it was a sound card and Vista issue. I installed into XP and with a Razer Barracuda I was quite ok with bullet direction.

The issues though, that ruinded the game, we of vast and varied arrays!

Foliage on the floor.. proper proper good stuff.. except it stopped shwing after about 85 metres.. so if you were more than 85 metres away, anyone could see anyone in the grass.. while the bloke lying there thought he was invisible.. which he was to the bloke 6 feet away!

Ironicaly I'm just installing ARMA2 and patching cos I have a new OS install and am replenishing my games.

may be wrong on this but i'm sure I remember reading a change log that said they fixed that problem. although it may have only been for the AI

they clained it was fixed... and it wasn't

    at all....

and now I can't get ARMA2 to run on my PC at all....

I give up...not enough time in life to screw around this much,.. it's why I stopped last time.

I reckon they've ripped off a lot of stuff from the ACE mod. Will probably still buy it, when it gets to £15.

    Re: Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead

I love Arma2. I also think I am one of the few people who didn't have much trouble with it. Multiplayer was great and ran great, and I've spent ages making missions for myself in the editor. I've also downloaded other missions made by other people and played through them.

The only problem I had, was with the single player campaign. Some of it was ok, but some missions (particularly the infamous "Manhattan") ran so slowly that I had to lower the graphics settings really low. It also was so filled with bugs, it was just impossible to complete. I have replayed it several times and some times it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's a shame too because the single player campaign is probably my favourite thing in this kind of game. They also really screwed up by making it 'on foot' only. The whole point of this game is that you fly gunships and jets and tanks and loads of other stuff, and there was none of that in the campaign... Madness.

Also, as epic as the game is, technically, I just found myself getting bored of it after a while. And it wasn't even THAT big of a while. I was all done with the campaign after 1 week, and I spent another week playing around with the editor and making my own missions, but that was it. I was bored with it at that point and spent the rest of my time in multiplayer which also got boring after a short while too. I wish I didn't, because it's exactly my kind of game... but I think for me, it just so heavily relies on creative missions. Manhattan is an amazing mission, giving you an enormous entire region and you have full free roam there. You have to investigate and track down the bad guys etc.. It's perfect, just a pity it was badly made, and a pity it was only 1 mission.

As for this new game, it looks like it might give me some more entertainment. The videos above are so great. I'm glad to hear it's a bit less PC taxing too, but I can't help but think it doesn't look as good as Chernarus. It looks great... but it's all sand and sandy buildings, so I can imagine wanting to get back to the forests of Chernarus after a while.

    where's the cheapest place you've found to buy this? play.com seem to be the cheapest i've found at £16.99. and for you elephants that never forget i've decided to pre-purchase after all since apparently they have focused on quality rather than quantity and loads of new features this time;

edit - can't wait to use the thermal imagining system they've introduced!
