Supreme Commander 2 Steam Error On start up. Need help.

Hi , i have posted a similar topic on Steam forums Just posting here as well since folks here are more likely to know how to fix this :

Ive just finished downloading the game and clicked play when ive realised i might be short on space so i proceeded to delete the copy of mass effect 2 i had on steam. This was during steam installing something after the game download could have been C++ or something not sure but long story short steam crashes and every time afterwards that i try to run the game i get the error below at the bottom of the page.:

    I tried
There is no Game.prefs created yet so cant delete/change it.
    Changing launch options to autoconfig
    Changing launch options to /disable_lightfx
Deleting SupremeCommander2.exe and verifying the game using Steam.
    Rebooting
    Redownloading/clean install
    Updated GPU drivers

I also deleted all my C++ redistributable in case it got corrupted and it needs to reinstall them but it doesnt seem to want to.

How did you delete the mass effect 2 files?

Steam operations really need to be done within Steam, rather than outside.

You could try backing up the games you currently have installed in Steam (not including sup com2), the uninstall Steam. Restart. Download latest Steam client. Install. Restore backed up other games. Then download Sup Com 2.

I would do what Kalniel said. Wipe everything and start again, but do the backup unless you want to spend the next week downloading files.

Re: Supreme Commander 2 Steam Error On start up. Need help.

You can right click each game and select back up, I did this recently when uninstalling steam from my C drive and installing on another drive. It backs the games up into a folder, then uninstall and re-install steam.

Once the install has completed, navigate to the folder on your PC where you saved the back up, go into the first folder which will probably be called disc 1, open the folder and there is a file in there you can run, which re-installs the game for you.

I had issues with GTA IV and doing the above fixed the problem.

Also, if you are only having problems with the one game, right click the game, go to properties and there should be an option for checking file integrity, click this, if it finds problems it will tell you, you can then tell it to repair/ redownload the files and it will only download those that are missing. Again, I found this due to having an issue with GTA IV

I personally put mine on a different drive, just incase. I cant see it not working. Infact, I wouldnt reinstall the back ups of other games after you have reinstalled Steam, I would try downloading SupCom2 again.

Re: Supreme Commander 2 Steam Error On start up. Need help.

You don't have to right-click each game - just do it for one, and you can select which games to include in the backup.

So you can do them all in one lump if you so wish.

have you tried deleting the game.prefs folder rather than the file that may or may not be in it alot of people pointing to that as a fix.
